Again, that’s not possible with middle and high schools. |
Does Wells have trailers for classrooms and common space that’s been converted to classrooms? |
Sho'nuff is. Ok, maybe 9 minutes in some cases, but mostly sho'nuff 5 minutes for most of us. You can go a LONG way in DC, in 5 minutes on wheels. |
Right? Define 'at capacity" PP because it seems like there is no such thing when it comes to Wilson and Deal, so why does Wells get to claim a cap? |
Since it only has 6th grade...not yet. But 150 students enrolled and started this week. The optimistic projection was for 120. The Coolidge trailer classrooms are still there; perhaps DGS will leave them in place. |
So if the brown kids prove them selves and the city gives you a whole bunch of extra money your take some minorities. Ha listen to your self |
Absolutely not true. Try living in Woodridge and going to Brookland Middle or Dunbar in less than 15 minutes. Try living in Palisades abs getting you wilson in less than 20 minutes. Try living in Chevy Chase and getting to suggested Coolidge in 15 minutes. Try living in Colonial Village sad get to Coolidge in 15 minutes. |
Since they are sharing a building with two other schools. |
+1 the limousine liberals are the worst. Pathetic. I hope to God they do away with assigned middle and high schools all together. I wasn’t a fan of it before but will definitely advocate for it next go round. |
I am glad to stay in the Langley HS bubble of FCPS. At least, in FCPS, each school has its own wonderful athletic facilities unlike DC schools where corrupt officials pulled stunts like this: https://www.change.org/p/mayor-bowser-private-schools-should-not-have-exclusive-rights-to-public-fields-makejelleffpublic?recruiter=1000133193&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=sms&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_abi&utm_term=share_petition&recruited_by_id=80a548f0-c78e-11e9-be24-7db67d90b55a&share_bandit_exp=abi-17484774-en-US&share_bandit_var=v0 Where do Wilson HS tennis team practice, at the nearby awful tennis courts? |
Sure. Of course you’re glad to be in Fairfax County. That’s why you’re typing in the DCPS forum . I can safely say I have NEVER visited the VA Schools forum because I’m just not that interested.
|
I would not have visited the DC school forum had it not for one of my kids SAT this past weekend @Wilson HS. My DD and I brought tennis racquets to play at the tennis courts adjacent to Wilson but the courts look awful so my DD refused to play in it. I decided to go online to find out more about Wilson HS and I found out that Wilson HS swim team can't even use the swimming pool after school because it has been leased exclusively to private schools and that the Deal team has to travel to Tacoma park to swim there. If this is the best DC can offer, thanks but no thanks. |
Is this true? Wilson swim team can't use Wilson pool??!! |
But the Wilson cohort is huge and with the demographic changes that DC is undergoing it is no longer even a purely WOTP cohort. Just a few years ago Wilson was half its current size and was a majority black school and was still very desirable. It really is not a stretch that DCPS that you could replicate the Wilson of even 5 years ago and have more of the students at the 2nd "Wilson" attend a school in their own neighborhood. If you duplicated the Wilson cohort at another school you'd also draw back a bunch of kids from the charters & application schools to their neighborhood HIgh School. It really feels like a lot of people think there is some magic to attending school in Ward 3 (and have false baselines about how good Wilson actually is) - it is the demographics at Wilson that are the most important thing and with the changes in DC's population in the last 10 years it really would not be hard to duplicate the Wilson mix in at least one if not two more neighborhoods. And if you did that Wilson (both of them) could perhaps still continue to accept low-income OOB kids who would really benefit from attending Wilson instead of all the kids from Shepherd Park and Crestwood and 16th Street Heights and Mt Pleasant etc who are responsible for a big part of the schools population growth all while attending a school much closer to where they live. Or we just continue with this craziness and see if we can squeeze every middle class kid in the city into Wilson at the expense of the greater good and eventually their own safety and education. |
Your DD refused to play on a less than ideal tennis court? Pathetic. Sounds like your DD is an entitled brat like her mom. That still doesn’t justify why you’ve spent the last 5 days on a DC school forum. You must live a sad sad life out in the boonies. |
