| Rapinoe and Marta are both 33. I was surprised to see either play in this world cup. I suspect it will be the last for both. Hopefully the US will not fall to the host country the way Brazil did and Rapinoe will have a few more chances to shine on the world stage. Lloyd (36) and Krieger (34) will also likely not be back 4 years from now. Rapinoe has remained healthy enough to compete at this level and that is impressive regardless of what you think about her or how she plays. Their are hundreds of other younger players waiting in the wings to take these players roster spots next time. |
Marta is the best player the women's game has ever seen, no thanks to her country or her federation, both of which only have eyes for the men's team. Yet she still loves and supports both. Rapinoe isn't even fit to kiss her feet. |

why would Pinoe want to do that? Or Marta want that?
Inspire vs. Perspire |
| i hate to say this, USA will likely lose today. |
If they bench Rapinoe for press they have a shot, maybe sit Moran too. Let’s see our “depth” be an asset. |
Yes they have to change the line up. The US is not putting their strongest team on the field. It is a topic that gets a lot of talk in soccer circles. It seem the commentators on FS1 are scared to critique the line up or coaching decisions. This is something that is always freely debated. Leaving Rapinio in with a yellow card was a risky move. Players that are getting physically beat get cards. Playing the ball down the left side takes touches away from Lavelle and Heath. You want those players getting the ball in the final 3rd, not at middle field. |
| Rapinoe’s the captain, expect her to start. Hopefully Press comes on against tired legs early in the 2nd half or Jill Ellis is tweaking |
| It’s Morgan who should be benched if she’s still carrying that knock imo |
| Is anyone else leaving work at lunch today? I am! Can’t wait for 3:00. This will be a great game - no matter the outcome. I am rooting for the USA but France plays a beautiful game and if they move forward they will be fun to watch too. |
| Both teams’ biggest weakness are arguably their keepers. Hoping for a shootout |
I totally agree about the goalkeepers. I can’t believe we don’t have a better option than Naher. And how has France not produced a better keeper than Bouhaddi? She’s been their starter forever and she’s really NOT good. |
Ugh, why would anyone ever want a game to end in a shootout? Especially when the result matters. |
It’s the knockout rounds, every result matters. But you’re right, maybe the game should end 0-0 and be decided by something trivial like penalties. Ugh. |
| Just want to add, by shootout I meant an open, end-to-end game, not penalties. Just realized there is the possibility that we actually agree. Though PKs would make for good drama too and give two keepers who are considered liabilities a chance to be the hero. |
Blah...bring back the golden goal, and play until someone scores. Unlimited, hockey style substitutions (one person at a time) during extra time until someone wins. |
