Villarreal Virginia Academy: imploding?

Egos superceded player development.

The dispute concerns which entity represents Villarreal FC: VIVA or ABGC?

Fortunately the impasse occurred during fall tryouts, leaving the door open for my players to look elsewhere.

Even if the dispute gets settled quickly, the sheer fact that it occurred and needed to go to ADR or the court is astonishing.

We enjoyed our experience with VIVA/AUFC.

Not coming back.

Olympaicos DC Academy based in Falls Church/Annandale still has a couple of spots on 08 and 07 teams.

Here is the academy video

My son plays there for 05s and it is a great year-around program that includes monthly player evaluations, fitness testing and video/classroom sessions. We have been involved in travel soccer in the area for a number of years and never experience anything like this. Olympiacos DC has only one team per age group and they really focus on player development - not on numbers.

P.S.: I need some funding asap and Bo knows how to sale.

Anybody can see Villareal training ground - just pay money, buy tickets and go. I was on tour of the AC Milan training grounds and saw Barcelona training grounds as well It is all about the money.

Getting to be seen by professional coaches becomes important by 16 -17. Before that the most important thing is player development and being trained by the professional coaches . According to FIFA rules, a US-based player can only go and train in European academy after the age of 18. So prior to that nothing will work no matter what. Any one can send their child to some commercial camp in Spain, Portugal, England etc. for 10 days. It will not make your player better. What makes a player is training 4-5 days a week year around. US system of Fall/Spring seasons does not work.

Let's wish Carlos some funding and have Bo sell you guys something is it about the players or about SALEs and money????

Then use that passion the work the crowd of American parents for thousands of dollars with the promise of their children may someday make it to play in Europe.

This is spot-on. Same with every low-level coach in the UK. We are suckers and they know it.

100% TRUE!!!!

Definitely not!!!! you would be crazy to go back there.

I’m sure no one wants to play in ODSL

or for a Greek team at that.

Answer: It's not. Given the accusations, which have substance, and the pending lawsuit, which will eventually involve state or federal law enforcement, VIVA will likely fold at some point. May not be right away, but eventually. See what happened at McLean Youth Football when one of the board members embezzled player funds. Villarreal will likely divest its association with VIVA at some point as well once the lawsuit picks up speed.

It's well known among NOVA soccer coaches that Bo likely steals club funds for his own gain. If you want to stay with the VIVA because it you like the parents, or you like the coaches, or etc., that's your choice. But know that doing so also means you are likely throwing thousands down the drain for a few warm and fuzzies and your child's playing season will likely end abruptly.

Being a youth soccer coach in the area for over 15 years I have witness first hand the damage someone like Bo can cause. It's common knowledge that the year prior to ABCG becoming VIVA, that the travel program lost over $30,000 - Just gone. The director had no explanation? The true fault is on ABGC's, Kip Germain for letting this fool run rampant behind his back for years.

Really, what is wrong being affiliated with the Greek team? As far as I know they will play in NCSL. They played in ODSL one age group up which is good. Barcelona Academy has teams in ODSL as well. My son's team did 12 tournaments plus winter league where they played against teams like Pipeline (top 3 in their age group in the country). Total of close to 60 games per year.

Found Kip!

No because it’s still the same coaches from when it was AUFC and ABGC before that.

Coaches are the key. You can call you club anything, but... coaches develop players - not the names and patches on the jerseys!!!!!

First Villareal bolted! (can't blame them) Now it looks like the legal issues just began for VIVA, Bo and Carlos (Hope they saved some money up)

[May 20, 2019] Annandale Boys & Girls Club (ABGC) was shocked to discover that, without any
notice to ABGC, now former representatives of ABGC Bo Amato and Carlos Aranda in association
with Villareal Virginia Academy (VIVA) formed a separate entity and are now attempting to divert
current ABGC players to a new club.
The ABGC Board of Directors voted in an emergency session tonight to retain a law firm to file a
lawsuit against Bo Amato, Carlos Aranda, and Villareal Virginia Academy (VIVA) to enjoin them from
further diverting ABGC players and resources.
ABGC Travel and Recreation soccer programs will continue under the leadership of Steve Lee and
Trevor Parker, Technical Directors. ABGC is grateful for the efforts of Steve and Trevor as they
continue running the travel soccer tryouts for next fall.
ABGC will continue to move forward with the coaches, managers, staff, and resources that have been
the standard of excellence at ABGC for over 60 years.
For any families that have paid VIVA for the fall season, rest assured that ABGC will honor that
payment and take all necessary steps to have the money credited to AGBC. We will continue to keep
you informed as this process moves forward
As always, you can register for the upcoming season at abgc.org.

Yep. I have no skin in the game- my husband is a coach in NOVA, so I hear things- and there's no way I'd let any of my children get near that slime ball. Between the stealing and the absolutely racist, sexist, disgusting stuff that flies out of his mouth, how anyone would want their child near VIVA after the accusations is beyond me. But why ABGC let it go on so long as well is mind boggling as well. I know ABGC has other account lines for its house and rec programs (soccer, basketball, etc.) so maybe it wasn't so clear at the organizational level, but still....

RE ODSL -- This is a starting League and is looking to grow into more competitive markets. True, they did tear up ODSL -- in 8 Fall games in their age group they won 55-7. But that really isn't the point. The real benefit of Olympiacos is that they teach European soccer. Their active defense scores about 10 offside calls per half, even against some awesome teams. The good teams adjust and usually still get called for 4 offisde in the 2nd half. The mids and forwards are passing, not kicking, into space. When opportunities are not there, they are taught to pass back to teammates who then quickly redirect the attack. Well, have to cut this short. Have to take the boy to our monthly film session. .... does that help? Yeah, I see improvement from all of the boys, especially in the areas addressed at the film sessions.

I would argue, come to a training session and see what you think. My understanding is that they still are looking for 05 07 and 08 players.

every club claims European/Best Soccer. Is this Greek team good in Europe to say they can teach good soccer? I imagine the pro players must be beating every European Soccer team and winning trophies

Should we jump every time we hear European soccer academy? Villareal, Juventus all these teams are in the area now should I join them or some low Greek league which is worst than the MLS. Hope you know not EVERY European country is good. Whats next Russian soccer coming to town?

Anyone who says "European style soccer" is an idiot and doesn't know the game. There is no such thing are "european style".

Every country has its own different style, and some countries have no real defined style. FYI Greece is not known for having a defined and recognizable style of play.
