Labor Sec. Acosta accused of helping Jeffrey Epstein beat sex trafficking charges

There’s a good summary of what the federal judge found problematic about the deal here:

I was just coming here to link Jake Tapper’s summary of what Alex Acosta, Trump’s labor secretary, did when he was in charge of this case. For those disinclined to click through, the long and the short of it is that Acosta let Epstein sign a non prosecutorial agreement and then proceeded to withhold that information from the victims and continued to lie to them by omission; telling them to “be patient.” They were denied justice for their rapes and the man who made sure they didn’t get justice now works for Trump.

Dershowitz is a cuckoo.

And a likely child rapist. He spends a lot of time defending Trump, too. Birds of a feather.

Hmmm

I had begun to conclude that the twitterers Lincoln’s Bible and James Four M were kind of loons the way they keep going on and on and on about russian mafia and how the Trumps are all wound up in it, but there are SO many coincidences and connections.

Jeffrey Epstein is a convicted pedophile and sex trafficker. Under oath Epstein says he knows Trump. When asked if he was ever with Trump along with under-aged girls, he takes The Fifth. Trump's Labor Sec. orchestrates corrupt sentencing for Epstein.

Do The Math.

There is a significant community of people who, both in a personal and professional context, spend their time looking for dirt on Trump's appointees. I'm not saying it's wrong (it goes on in every administration), but in Trump's admin, you make yourself especially vulnerable. I honestly do not see why anyone would join it, regardless of policy stance - much better to ride out the 4-8 years.

Had Acosta stayed Dean of the law school at FIU, I do not believe this story would have as much traction, or that he would be positioned as a central figure in it as much. He would just be one, and not mentioned in the headline. But, that's the choice he made. But as has been mentioned, the story might actually get buried, because he's only one of the President's men, and Trump doesn't figure in it that much, so people aren't all that interested.

I hope people DO pay attention. It's a sad, sad story.

Uh, maybe he was "forced" into the administration BECAUSE of the story?

I becoming more and more amenable to this theory. Trump specifically wants compromised individuals within his orbit. Mutually assured destruction is a good deterrent from speaking out.

This. See also Dr. Ronny “Candyman” Jackson as Secretary of the VA.

So the cabinet position is quid pro quo for making Epstein’s problems go away?
I’m not a lawyer and am just trying to follow along. I’ll admit I didn’t know who Acosta was before this thread.

No, the idea is, you are willing to abide by the sham if you have skin the game. That is why virtually all of the close Trump allies are family, family of conspirators (McConnell/Chao) or compromised people themselves, like DeVos (Prince), Ross, Zinke, and yes, Acosta.

Ding ding ding. If you are compromised, you’re going to keep quiet about all of the rampant corruption going on.

I often wonder how explicit these conversations are. Like they must have explicitly arranged to pay Acosta to spike the case, much like Cyrus Vance allegedly got paid not to investigate fraudsters Eric and Ivanka up in NYC, but when they ask you to come work in the shi++y Trump White House, does one know that one must? Does anyone explicitly say it? I think I’d make a horrible criminal.

I nodded in acknowledgment at Secretary Acosta (no smile) at one of the Department of Labor’s Christmas parties and I will forever be ashamed that I was too much of a coward to spit in his face.

Did you know about this at the time?

Probably good that you didn’t, as that would have been assault.
