Nova and MD is in withdrawal mode. Agree with the PP above, buy in NOVA. Although most parts of S Arlington close to metros are significantly more expensive than SS. SS is more comparable to parts of Alexandria.

Give it up, PP. OP already said she liked SS and is looking for childcare there.

Arlington announced yesterday it won Amazon HQ2. Maybe SS can issue a press release today that it’s been picked by OP.

Schools are comparable between the two with Yorktown being a little better than Blair but Takoma Park being better than any middle in Arlington. But the previous poster is correct Silver Spring is much bigger so it varies a lot. There are parts to avoid like Wheaton or White Oak

I grew up in Silver Spring and live in Arlington now, I still maintain some rental properties in SS. I will say Silver Spring to Arlington is a hard commute for about the last 5 years, between the increased population and the work on Rock Creek it can be miserable unless you live a block from a metro and work a block from the metro. Piney Branch is getting undrivable

Wut?

LOL - Blair is a diverse school with both high and low achievers, but it's the overall best high-school in the state. Its STEM program makes TJ look 3rd rate.

If you really want to live in TP/Silver Spring now then rent for at least a year and wait for prices to stop dropping. MoCo is not in a good position so be careful with your money.

oh my God!! Amazon's here and all the our jobs in MOCO and in DC disappeared! We must now all move to VA!

I was thankful that VA and not MD has to foot that bill. All these tax subsidies for billionaires make me sick. It's kind of a pyrrhic victory for VA. Decades of neglect of their infrastructure investment have left NVA in terrible shape. DC traffic is now preferable to places like Tysons that just can't support the development that exists there. They need to heavily invest in infrastructure, but VA has always been about low regulation and taxes which is probably why businesses go there. Only problem is low regulation and lack of tax revenue gives them few options to address the problems they are currently experiencing.

Um...MoCo offered 1B more than VA and didn't even get in the top finalists. Its far from a pyrrhic victory for VA. VA has a lock on all the other tech business as well. If MoCo had gotten Amazon, it would have opened the door for the industry to spread across both areas. Now, all the private sector jobs will just span from eastern NOVA to western NOVA. Anyone owning a 500K TH in Arlington is going to make a nice sum of money.
