No way is it equivalent to Duke. Where do you get that? As others have pointed out it's about the same level as UNC-CH or Wake Forest. Maybe Michigan.

Wait, are you equating Michigan and Wake Forest?! Seriously?!

check USNWR, they're only a few spots apart.

Use your actual brain. Do you honestly think Wake Forest holds a candle to an academic powerhouse like Michigan?

of course. Actually USNWR ranks it higher than Michigan. Maybe you know more.

UVA is ranked 25th overall in US News only because the methodology favors privates overall. Its reputation score in those rankings is much higher than its overall score (as are the reputation scores of Michigan and Berkeley) and is on par with Duke. Many, many applicants apply to both schools and VA residents routinely turn down Duke for UVA

Ah, I get it. So one publication ranks WF higher than UMich and that just can’t possibly be right, and one ranks UMich higher and, well, THAT one is obviously right. Oookay.

What's "on par" with Duke? Big difference between #9 (Duke) and #25 UVA. Big difference. The USNWR methodology can be quibbled with, but I can't see how they got it that wrong.

You’re arguing for USNWR ranking being right when every single Mich grad dept is ranked higher than Wake Forest and anyone would tell you Michigan has a better national reputation. Come on — only an idiot would think Wake Forest is better.

o.k., USNWR is idiots then because they don't agree with you. Maybe you could lay out your methodology. I'm sure they got credit for their "national reputation" but that didn't quite push it ahead of Wake.

Most people consider grad dept rankings a proxy for the quality of undergrad academic opportunities in various disciplines. Michigan blows Wake Forest out of the water on that count. Its offerings are not only broader, but of vastly better quality.
