The GS ranking is based - for every school - on reports submitted by GS participants. Those reports can be uneven and sparse and some people don’t regard them as being accurate or comprehensive. Alexandria parents seem to understand that GW is generally well-regarded but is physically falling apart (quite literally), and that FH has a prior history, only recently changed by the very good current Principal, of not being academically high-quality and being a chaotic environment. The schools have not been comparable to each other. And there is very much an SES difference between the two zones, just as there will be between the existing high school and the new west end high school.

Well PP, just recently the City Manager and Staff got outed for mis-informing residents on Potomac Yard. Indeed a formal apology has been issued by Mark Jinks.

Let's hope the same happens on this west end 2nd HS matter and soon. Let's bombard the probable new mayor (Justin Wilson) for facts. Is anything being done to fight the division of the high schools in East vs. West. I've seen letters online from a teacher group at TC and from a former school board member advocating for a Minnie Howard expansion (to 9 and 10). The east/ west division of middle schools have a clear imbalance racially and socio-economically, which has been pointed out by at least one school board member publicly. In terms of distance, TC is centrally located and just as close to the West End as the East end. I assume some of this could come out in a community dialogue, which I fear would take away from the capacity discussion.

Nothing is being done to fight the TC split that is underway, in part because the school board only recently admitted that this is what they have been planning and implementing. And those recent admissions have been in the press and not in official statements other than the educational specification regulations - those are formal, publicly released, and binding. The school board’s intention is to have all final approvals in place so that the split is irreversible before conducting any formal public proceedings to bless their already-made decision.

There is no split underway. For some reason one person (maybe two?) seem obsessed with the idea that there is. The only evidence is a stretched reading of a few lines in a technical specs doc for new high school capacity. Dem Mayor nominee Wilson has said to one such individual (on FB) that they are reading the docs incorrectly. While they have not yet determined where or how they will add capacity, I think maintaining a city wide school is the most likely outcome by far.

The split is actively underway. It's four technical documents, the city has budgeted it, and now the school board has set it for implementation. It's final. School board contractors conducted a survey of exactly 16 TC Williams faculty, and 9 opposed. They conducted the survey in November 2017, but the results were so contrary to what school board wanted that they buried it in the May 20, 2018 meeting. The consultants that the school board hired were directed to recommend against any structure except for multiple high schools, and they complied. School board has never once entertained any proposal but for the creation of the new, lower-tier 9-12 high school. There is not a single document that the school board has adopted that tees that option up.

Nothing in the last three documents points to two seperate 9-12 schools (if you think there is something in the first 69 page document, you need to tell me what page)

The first powerpoint says nothing about the issue at all.

The other two just show some teacher (mostly) feedback, and show disadvantages of all options. Nothing is teeing up two schools. We have been over this before. You claim they have decided on two schools, when challenged you provide links to docs that do NOT show what you say they show.

Perhaps is one of many Alexandria citizens who just does not want to spend more money on schools?

Why are people not naming names? Do parents have to be so connected to Alexandria politics and its small government working to know these things? Who the heck knows which ap is married to a cop? This sort of insularity is a problem with ACPS.

They’re talking about Ignatio. I don’t work at TC anymore (thank god) but I did several years ago. She was overly aggressive and not liked but apparently she’s worse than ever now. I guess getting promoted from asst principal at a school to to the Superintendent's office then busted back to asst principal will do that to you? I don’t know if her job security is because of her husband’s job or not, but she has someone’s ear for sure. Friends who still work there say she’s managed to run off some really talented teachers already-pretty impressive for 1st year back. Sadly, she's not the only problematic person on the TC leadership team.
