Yes, it made him look ridiculous, but it is much more honorable than sleeping with prostitutes or using groupies. Amazing that you have that as the more normal course of action.

He looks ridiculous and silly but this is nothing that he should have lost his show over.

No she was underage and it was disgusting and predatory. Today he would be rightfully fired and persona non grata

She was underage when he first met her. She turned 18 about a month later and they claim that's when they started dating. I'm not sure I believe it, but that's what they said and no one can prove otherwise. If what they are saying is true, why should he be fired over it? You may not like it, but it's perfectly legal to date an 18 year old.

So she was underage when they met? Right.

I believe she was 17, which is legal in NY.

Under age 18, which is the standard for adulthood.

What a weird "whataboutism"

I just went back down memory lane and watched that Seinfeld cleavage episode. It was funny then and funny now. Lighten up Francis.

I thought it was creepy then and I think its creepy now. Not sure how this was never a big deal in the media.

So if a 38 yr old Jerry Seinfeld (or fill in the blank with whatever huge celebrity male) wanted to date your 17/18 year old daughter, you'd tell her don't do it???

GTFOH!! You people are such hypocrites, lol.

People are saying it was a big deal.

What is different though, and hard to compare, is that there was very little internet usage and no social media then. So likely fewer articles, fewer comments, fewer people talking, and less exposure.

Also she was consenting, Roy Moore’s teens and Harvey Weinsteins victims were not, and there is no assault or rape.

Umm, I'd tell him to get lost yes. Who would be impressed if some famous old creep wanted to bang your daughter? Thanks for giving my daughter herpes and a cocaine addiction Mr. A-lister...?

How old are you? It got A LOT of attention then. A LOT.

Here's one round-up:

Remember when 39-year-old Jerry Seinfeld dated a 17-year old?
http://defamer.gawker.com/remember-when-38-year-old-jerry-seinfeld-dated-a-17-yea-1714153938

Of course Howard Stern was going to ask about it:
“So,” Stern said . . . “you sit in Central Park and have a candy bar on a string and pull it when the girls come?”

That gawker article was from 2015, not when this was happening.

i'm 46. i remember when seinfeld dated shoshanna. i don't remember him getting blasted for it. he was just doing what a lot of other male actors do. jack nicholson, mick jagger et al.

Guys like Nicholson or Jagger might have slept with young prostitutes or groupies, but Seinfeld was a bit different in that he was seriously dating her, in a public way, as a traditional "steady girlfriend." For a guy who wrote clever, observational humor, he was remarkably clueless about how it ridiculous this made him look.

but mick jagger's new girlfriend is 30. she's a ballerina with the NYC ballet -- not a prostitute and doesn't appear to be a groupie. i give you that she's 30 and not 17, but it does make him look ridiculous. makes her look stupid too.

+1. I remember this story when it came out, and the general consensus was that the situation was gross, even if it was legal.

He dated her for 5 years and seems to have set her up nicely in a career.

He's a rapist.

If she is legally underage, then yes.

17 is over the age is consent, and apparently she turned 18 before the actually started dating. They dated for 5 years. It's not something I would do, but it does not appear to be abusive.

It's still creepy and not okay.

According to you, sure.

Jerry was on Howard Stern earlier this year. In the interview, he said he NEVER had a girlfriend in high school or college. He became very popular on the stand up circuit in his mid 20s and had meteoric success. It was only that after he was famous that he really began dating. Prior to hitting this level of success, he lived with his parents during college.

Frankly, it sounds as if Seinfeld had a suspended adolescence. He didn't have a high school sweetheart, didn't attend prom. He said he was obsessed with comedy, tv, and movies through his youth and college years, and avoided spending time on developing personal relationships.

From a romance perspective, I think he was basically a high school boy into his early 30s.

Unless someone is either running for political office or someone I am considering to make a friend, I don't really care if they do creepy things that are legal (if they do creepy things that are illegal, they should be punished in accordance with the law.) Why would I? Plenty of things people do in this world are legal but, according to me, are immoral. If I spent my time passing judgment on strangers, I'd have no time for anything else. Jerry Seinfeld dated a 17 year old? Creepy. Not illegal. If Roy Moore stuck to ladies above the age of consent and had consensual relationships with them? Creepy not illegal. Wouldn't vote for him because it exhibits bad judgment but wouldn't have a particular fit either. (Moore went for girls below age of consent and some encounters were non consensual which is a crime and therefore a different category of behavior.)

Why is it not okay? Previous posters said they were both consenting adults. That I believe just happens to be the definition of okay when it comes to sexual relationships.
