+1 PP's got some fuzzy math going on. |

Wootton is not diverse, no matter what Wootton parents and boosters want you to believe.
Now lets go back to the serious question of Whitman. Why would anyone send their kids to a school rated 4? Isn't that "Child endangerment?"
|
I don't go to Wootton but live nearby and it is very diverse. It doesn't have to be half poor and half Latino to be diverse. |
|
I went to Whitman. The average family income isn't higher than Churchill.
MCPS is screwing up badly. The schools are doing too much overthinking education. |
Very diverse? Wow!!
Then Whitman is very diverse too. They got a few African Diplomat kids in there. |

Wootton is 45.6% white. 36.7% Asian. 6% Black and 7.4% Hispanic. FARMS 5%. ESOL <5%. Whitman is 67.5% white. 14.3% Asian. <5% Black and 9.6% Hispanic. FARMS <5% ESOL <5%. Blair is 22.3% white, 15.3% Asian. 24.5% Black and 33.5% Hispanic. FARMS 36% ESOL 14.9%. I think diversity is somewhat relative to wherever you are sitting. Wootton looks diverse from the perspective of Whitman but not from the perspective of Blair. I'm not sure what the 4 means (back to the original post). They are all good schools and I don't hear much of a difference between the high schools in MCPS. As an aside, thank you to the Iowans who posted! |
The 4 in the OP is a reference to the Great Schools ranking of Walt Whitman. I think it was an 8 before, and this year it's a 4 due to bad PARCC test results. http://www.greatschools.org/maryland/bethesda/970-Walt-Whitman-High-School/ |
The 4 means it's a bad school and a "Child endangerment" environment; at least that's what Whitman parents and boosters used to say to schools ranked 5 or less. |
wtf |
PARCC was supposed to be harder than the old Maryland test so it seems like they just aren't up to that level of education yet. |
|
Yet somehow BCC's rating of 7 didn't change, even though students there also took the PARCC test. |
Yes, and now they score the same as Einstein, my school district, where they recommend others not live because it is so awful

If you want to swayed by the Great schools number feel free. I prefer to look at actual data.
AP data - Einstein - 1.8 tests per student, average score 3.1, math, science scores 2.9, 2.8 SAT score average - 1590 Graduation rate 83% AP Data - Whitman 2 tests per student average score 4, math, science scores 4 SAT score average 1889 Graduation rate >95% this is data from Montgomery County. You can argue about diversity and other factors but there is no denying that Whitman is preparing kids for college. http://reportcard.msde.maryland.gov/college_readiness/AP/2016_AP_150789.pdf http://reportcard.msde.maryland.gov/college_readiness/SAT/2016_SAT_150789.pdf http://reportcard.msde.maryland.gov/college_readiness/AP/2016_AP_150427.pdf http://reportcard.msde.maryland.gov/college_readiness/SAT/2016_SAT_150427.pdf |
