Why can't a nice, normal house like this be in our price range?

Sorry.

Rat race = a lot of rats.

Anyway, who really wants to live near someone who talks about "the best school district in Arlington"? It screams NoAr douchebag.

Let me guess, you prefer Saudi Princes?

Yep.
That's the way it is. You need to make peace with it. I've been here 15 years and accepted that we can't afford that.

+1. Also, a 5 bedroom, 2600 square foot house is not really "nice and normal" in this area. That's a really nice, renovated, and large house. Probably twice the size of the houses our parents grew up in in the post-War period.

+2. C'mon, OP. The homes of "nice and normal" people in Arlington are 2.5-3 BR, 1400 sq ft, with no renovations. And you will still pay more than $500k for them (sometimes a lot more)--if you can compete with the builders who are offering cash to knock them down.

Not many homes in the Old Glebe neighborhood or anywhere near it for 500k...unless you go back in time 15 years

I can almost smell the mustiness of age. It is 70 years old! Time for new build.

Also, foreign investors buying up penthouses in NYC? Sure
Russian oil magnates ( or whoever) buying up arlington's sfh's ...umm... No.

That new development in Maywood was bought 50 per cent by Foreign investors.

But some of these are townhouses and I want SFH! And I want five bedrooms, not a measly four! And I want more square footage! Closer in! For 50K less! And I want...I want...I want...

Well, none of these are townhouses, but I take your point.

Look again dear. About 95 percent say Townhome.

That's absolutely true. But to say that that part of Arlington is coveted would be a huge understatement. Lots of money here, everyone knows about the area, down to the most granular details.

Oh, good. It's been a while since someone dropped the "coveted" word to describe Arlington.

Even so, it's not DC, and there are any number of other more expensive suburbs in VA and MD, albeit with less need for constant affirmation of their value.

Not really. 22207 is now the fifth most expensive zip code in the area, despite having many apartments on Lorcom and lower priced homes in Halls Hill....but whatever works for you.

The marketplace speaks for itself. Is that what you mean by constant affirmation of value?

If I had to spend $1mil for a house, I damn sure would buy one where I could walk to buy a loaf of bread.

That's Capitol Hill or NOMA, where you can get a house for $1million but it'll only have three or four bedrooms, no yard and street parking.

Oh please....you can buy a similar cape in a much nicer part of DC for less than a million. Try AU Park or Barnaby Woods...those areas are less expensive than Arlington's Country Club Hills...

There's a better school district?
