Realistically I know we aren't just scraping by, but a used car was a huge financial decision for us. This area is so screwed up.

Well, I don't see why you feel this is screwed up, because in general a car purchase is a big financial decision regardless of income. People don't buy cars like picking out a shirt at the GAP.

Me- $8,000 from education consulting very part time and selling on eBay.

How Demi's your DH get into that role? I am a mid-career software engineer but see limit pathes up. Do I need to transition to sales or marketing first?

My husband works in finance as a research analyst. He makes a base of $200k and then a bonus that is usually in the $500k range. Some years he'll get an equity grant in addition to that.

He's well paid relative to the population but not really to the industry he works in.

Isn't it usually a progression though? I'm not in the industry so I don't really know how it all works but do you typically start out as an income partner and then move to equity if you get a big enough book of business to make it worth their while? I can't imagine the average 30 something has that much business to bring in unless they grew up in a very well connected family. Fwiw, my BFF is an income partner and she says she has expectations of being an equity partner someday so I assumed that was how it works.

With that income why on earth are selling on eBay?

Dh makes a good amount, 350k, and we're comfortable. I sold things (and shopped at Goodwill) when we he was still in grad school and I was a SAHM and we were scraping by but now I just donate all of our things that we no longer use hoping it will help someone else out like it did us.

It's my hobby and it gives me something to do during the day. I did the PTSA, room parent and HOA thing for 10 years and am so burned out... Now I train for half marathons and shop.

What your best eBay secret?
