And a lot of people would end up going that should not be in college and resulting in a dumbing down of higher education. |
This weekend I read an article in the Economist that condescendingly referred to Trump's supporters as "wrinklies." This made me, a 30-something liberal female attorney, so mad! How dare the writers of the Economist disrespect the american voter! In a democracy, the government listens to the people and not the other way around. The liberal elite should not be allowed to impose their own version of the rule of law on America. Over the last twenty years the First Amendment has been almost completely obliterated by the idea of political correctness. People are afraid to say even the simplest things for fear of being misunderstood. Hell, saying "Merry Christmas" is no longer socially acceptable. Laws are enforced at will, or not at all, and the liberal elite feels entitled to disrespect the average Americans, off whose backs they make their living. And this is precisely why people support Trump - because he does not seek to "improve" or "educate" an average voter, but instead shows him respect and actually listens to their opinions - something that, you know, in a democracy, an elected representative is supposed to do. |

This is OP, and I can see this point as the most logical explanation. And I am also sick and tired of everyone trying to make everything support their idea of PC. |
It is comparing apples with oranges. In the past a deportation was counted if the person was already in the country illegally. Turning someone away at the border was not counted as a deportation. I am someone who voted for Obama but I disagree with his plan to effectively grant amnesty. I am not an advocate for Trump's immigration plan but I do believe he is right that we should not grant amnesty and certainly not offer a path to citizenship. |
Today's political class should be relieved that neither tar nor feathers is readily available, though if I were the Walton family I might consider stocking it at WalMart. |
If college education became free (which it never can be, since someone is ultimately paying the freight), colleges like Strayer and Phoenix would sprout everywhere like weeds. A bachelors degree would be worth about as much as a high school degree from 1990 (hint - not much). |
Hmmm, Trump is many things, but "respectful" and "good listener" he is not. |
Yes, he has great respect for republicans and the American people. ![]() |
I have never complained about our student loans. We were grateful for the education and that the loans allowed us to get a great degree and jobs. But what about us? We still have 30k we're paying on. It seems ridiculously unfair that someone will get something for free that I paid 80k for (a public state university). I do agree that college is too expensive, but nothing in life should be free. |
I made no such implication. No one doubts the patriotism of liberal icons like FDR and JFK, each of whom enjoyed strong backing from Reagan democrats. But to paraphrase Lloyd Bentsen (a WWII combat pilot and patriot), Obama is no John Kennedy. No, you don't get to decide who is a patriot. And patriotism is not correlated with your or your party's core values. This is incredibly insulting. Also, just FYI, because this is another very annoying thing, someone's opinions do not carry more weight because they have served in the military. |
1. Why are you so angry about something published in the Economist? 2. American voters deserve disrespect and ridicule if 35 present think Trump is qualified to be President. 3. The government doesn't necessary listen to the people in a representative democracy. Look no further than opinions on gun control. 4. The "liberal elite"? Are you for real? You aren't very familiar with the Economist. It's mostly British writers are all over the map on issues. 5. You must not have done very well in ConLaw if you think the First Amendment is in danger from "political correctness." Only you and wrinkly old idiots who watch Fox believe that red coffee cups are part of a systematic War on Xmas. 6. You blew what little credibility left by claiming that Trump listens to and respects the average American. Your no liberal and undoubtedly a terrible attorney not working in the legal field. |
Exactly, then we would have bachelor degrees not leading to jobs and those who can will go on to get Master's and Phd--only we as a society will simply incur the added expense of funding another 4 years of "education" that doesn't lead to a better job or higher income. It is all smoke and mirrors. Higher education costs are already out of control precisely because the government got involved in the load business. We don't need to fund what will be worth no more than today's high school diploma. |
Personal attacks against those with whom you disagree. Progressivism at its finest. |
... and the PP just proved my point... ![]() |
