I have been pretty chill with the Ebola situation and I have not commented on any of the threads until a post a couple lines up. That being said:
All the posters calling people "hysterical" and what not do you not see how this can spiral pretty easily out of control. Two nurses got it and then one dumbass flew with a fever! A selfish and stupid move and guess what...thats our society in a nutshell. So say she did infect people on that plane. Who are they with now, did they infect others...how is it hysterical to think this could really get out of control and quick because of the actions of selfish people. The CDC, hospital and now this second nurse have done a shitty job in many ways and I have no confidence Ebola is going away any time soon here. |
| ^^ I think “confidence” is the key word. Whether rational or not, the public right now does NOT have confidence in our govt nor in the CDC to adequately address this problem. Perhaps things will get better, but until confidence is restored, we will have a very angry and fearful citizenry. |
It isn't. But people love hope and change |
| People are going to be after her head, if she survives. |

I'm waiting for the cancellation of the election because it's not safe enough
That's how little trust I have |
How could she not know? She is a nurse-- supposedly educated in infectious diseases. She was told to monitor herself for possible exposure as was the other nurse. So she hops on a plane to go plan her wedding? I would hope that any medical professional would be smarter than that. |
And regardless of how I feel about Obama...where the hell is he? Why has he not made a statement to help ease the public about this becoming an epiedmic in the US? I truly do not understand what the hell is going on? It is clear that leadership either 1) completely underestimated how serious this could get or 2) were just lazy. There have been no proper steps taken since this thing started with Duncan and it seems like shit is going to have to hit the fan in order to get something done. |
Obviously let's hope that she does. She is a victim. Legal counsel will determine who to sue if it turns out she infected any one else. |
She victimized others |
Mostly, it sounds like they overestimated the competence of the Texas department of health, hospital and its staff. There will be an announcement later today that patients will henceforth be treated only at the 4 ebola supercenters. |
I would word that a little differently. I would say the CDC overestimated the training they supposedly provided for this virus and the protocols they put in place. Both have been woefully inadequate. |
This past summer has sucked but before that things didn't seem as bad as early 2000s - 9/11, sniper, anthrax, etc. |

It seems that she had the symptoms after the flight, not before. So, if she is telling the truth, then she didn't have a fever and then hop on a plane to get back home. But, still, she shouldn't have been on planes in the first place, right? I thought the ones who were around Duncan were supposed to be careful.

This is the way things have been since the history of the earth. We have technology and the business of media to keep us updated and in the know, of every single thing, all the time. Fear is business. Crises make money. The events are not necessarily new, but there are ways people can profit off of it; that, combined with the ability to hear every detail happening anyplace, any time, spread on a large scale level. |
She's black. Don't count on it. Cue Jessie Jackson. She's being moved to Atlanta. He will need to find new talking points |
