Do you need alcohol that much?

...as long as a non-drinker is your driver. Thank you.

the cdc has shown that alcohol-related deaths due to over-consumption (so not drunk driving) has gone up over the last 15 years.

The drinking culture, especially in large urban areas, is out of control IMO.

I'm an non drinker (religious reasons) and even I would NOT want to hang out with a non drinker like OP. If you want to drink -- great -- what does it matter to me? As long as you're not drinking like you're a college kid and getting sick and making me take care of you, have fun. If you don't want to drink, great. I'm happy to hang out with people who drink or don't or drink sometimes -- as long as we talk about something BESIDES drinking and people don't sit there and preach about why it's necessary to drink or why it's better not to drink. Who cares? I'm hanging out with you for the company, not for your evaluation of how to live my life.

Alcohol is a liquid drug that society can't imagine living without. So sad.

I LIKE drinking. I like the taste of beer on a hot day, a cold martini with my oysters, a nice red wine with my steak, and a pina coloda at the ocean. Sometimes, I like feeling a bit buzzed. Drunk sex can be fun, too. Which is totally legal, and none of your damn business.

Just wondering, OP - are you by any chance the child of an alcoholic? I can personally live without alcohol, although I do enjoy a drink once in a while. Where does your extreme viewpoint come from?

What I can't stand are the drinkers who won't drink unless you are drinking. If you want to drink just get one. It's like a game all Christmas week. Oh I not going to drink if you aren't. Well I do not care if you drink or not but I see your hands shaking...go get a drink.

What is this addiction in our society that makes it impossible for people to give up alcohol? Is it at all possible to have a great party without alcohol. If you need alcohol to enjoy life, maybe something is wrong.

Thoughts?
I suggest not attending an event where you know alcohol will be available. Problem solved.

Do you think buzzed driving is a good idea?

I don't drink either. I know someone who was an alcoholic and wound up in jail from drinking and driving. Unfortunately, drinking just leads to criminal behavior, which is sad people drink so much and can't stop. And then if you go to a party and you are the only one not drinking, the drinkers try to encourage you to drink so they don't have to reflect on their own behavior.
