Do you need alcohol that much?

Do you eat meat OP? As a non-meat eater, I cannot understand people's needs to consume meat. Eliminate meat consumption and you eliminate many social evils and disease. What is this addiction in our society that makes it impossible for people to give up meat? Is it at all possible to have a great party without serving meat? If you need meat to enjoy life, maybe something is wrong.

The difference between you and me is that I would never actually say the above (despite it actually being accurate when phrased the way you did it). I just choose not to eat meat and let people who choose to eat it eat it without me looking over their shoulders passing judgment. I even - GASP - serve it when I have parties because people like it. I guarantee there is something you enjoy (perhaps meat) that others do not and could easily be perplexed by you. So just shut up.

Here here! People really need to MYOB and quit being so self-righteous.

I like a glass of wine occasionally. I don't need it. I also don't need to live in the house I have, wear the clothes I wear, or eat the foods I eat. I still like those things. But no, I don't need them to survive physically or be intact mentally.

I am not a drinker. I will maybe have a drink or two once a month or so. I do have to say, it's enjoyable being the only person not drinking among my friends. Its hours of entertainment and reminds me of why I don't drink. While I am a happy drunk, I do things that I normally wouldn't and I don't like to lose control like that. However, I will smoke or ingest some green. Actually, being high around drunk people is the best. My stomach hurts from laughing so much!

The problem is alcohol and driving. Just get someone else to drive you.

It's possible to drink without driving afterwards.

What do you do for fun with your friends on weekend evenings? Just curious.

OP here.
1. Go see a movie
2. Eat out at restaurants
3. Have dinner parties
4. Do potlucks
5. Go away for weekend trips
6. Go for a walk on a woodsy trail
7. Go hiking
8. Go kayaking
9. Go fishing
10. Go to a park / picnic with another family with kids
11. Go on a long bike ride
12. Attend book club meeting
13. Church events
14. Fundraising dinners

Too many things to list...

The bolded are always better with alcohol. Seems like OP in this thread had some serious FOMO (fear of missing out) and sought solidarity.

You missed a couple. I helped out.

I don't need it. I like having an occasional drink. I don't get drunk anymore and haven't in years. I can and do go to parties that don't involve alcohol - hosts choice, makes no difference to me.
