The only reason to post this on DCUM is to stir sh- -. The kid in the middle of this pile is a 4 year old who will now, undoubtedly be the topic of playground gossip. Very tacky. You have far too much time on your hands.

NP here. Believe me, we're not gonna know who the 4 year old is and even if we did, there may be a lot of a-holes on here, but I can't think on one "person" I've encountered on here who would do harm to an innocent 4 year old. Get a grip. What will happen is the a-hole parent who gamed the system will be in a lot of sh--, the same type you said OP was trying to stir. After that, said child will be removed and go elsewhere without a clue as to what happened. Unless the a-hole parent is such a douche, they'd mention the mishap to the kid. Given that the parent is a lying sack of sh-- to begin with, I wouldn't put it past them. You people on here need to stop protecting liars and cheaters and have some sympathy for the IBs kids that are being stolen from. My sympathy is with the 4 year old exploited by negligent parents and them.

Your sympathy is misplaced. the cheaters should be reported.

At our school, you must prove residency with a tax document.

I'm really shocked at the number of people attacking the OP and making excuses for the cheater! Unbelievable! Are all of the people making excuses cheaters themselves? Because I can't imagine another reason to attack the OP.

OP, please report this. If it's nothing, then no harm has been done. There are so few spots at good schools that it's awful that someone can cheat their way in and get away with it while children of families who can legitimately attend are kept out. Good luck!

YES in DC. There is a list of documents you can use and all of them are government issued and/or real estate documents.

Your federal Tax Return is not accepted as a residency verification document (they do accept Form D-40, but you can use other documentation). Neither is your mortgage or HUD stuff acceptable - the only real estate document you can use is a lease.

Not too long ago, I would have been similarly shocked at the number of criminal sympathizers in our supposedly civil society...but then I began reading DCUM; it's enlightening. Thanks to Jeff, I recently cast my first vote for a Republican (not that he would approve); but I truly am grateful to this site for having ripped the veil of ignorance from my eyes.

Oh, please. Just because the OP isn't giving specifics doesn't mean they don't know something. Yes, it sucks that parents are called on to rat each other out, but OSSE doesn't do a good job of finding residency cheaters. There's no danger that a grandparent or babysitter is going to be mistaken for a genuine fraud.

OP, report and move on. They may be legit, maybe not.

This. Report and move on. If it's all good, no harm, foul. I'm legitimately enrolled at a HRCS. If someone called to say I was reported I'd say come on over to my house and have a look, or give them a copy of whatever proof they needed. Done. We live in a city with very limited resources where people have to be vultures to make sure their kid isn't cheated. I get it. Investigate me. Big deal in light of the circumstances. Remember people, honest people have nothing to hide. Also, after enough cheaters get called out, they'll stop. Something has to get this going.

Finally, a reasonable response on this thread.

Concerned parents should report. That should be EVERY DC resident.

Do you know this for sure? You know the people who live in the house? You know there was no typeo in the address? You know that the Principal doesn't know about this? You know that the Principal hasn't already spoken to the family and had them proven their residency?

Just checking because you actually don't know.

What's your deal, lady. A person doesn't have to know the answer to all of these questions. The OP recognized that one of the published "facts" about the family is incorrect. The responsible thing to do is to alert the city of a potential problem. It is then up to the city to check the errant fact and figure out if it is fraud or if it is a mistake or if there is a special circumstance. It is absolutely unreasonable to say that you should do nothing unless you can prove fraud. That is not the job of the individual. Individuals are supposed to report when they know that a certain fact is wrong. That is how the system is designed to work.

I think the person you're responding to is afraid she'll be exposed for cheating and is trying to discourage OP from reporting it.

All the residency vigilantes should check their privilege.

FWIW this is my Janney Story (I have a kid in K.) I never got the summer mailing and went to the office to investigate. They had my address completely wrong - wrong number and wrong street (not even like Albemarle/Alton - totally different street names). I asked the woman if my form was hard to read so she pulled it out and it was very neat penmanship. It was just a straight up error. I have since corrected it.

Anyways, if I hadn't I am sure someone might have thought something was fishy, especially if they were a close neighbor to the wrong address.

Now, would I care if someone challenged my residency status? NO - because it would take me about 5 minutes to get together my documents to prove that I am IB.

OP - report them. If nothing is wrong it's hardly an inconvenience to prove it. If they are cheating, then that is that.

.. and some other documents as well. I know not in DC, but for a school where people are likely to cheat, yes, they do check. They check everyone.

What privilege would that be?
