Chipotle knocks me out. I may eat 1/3rd of a chicken bowl and I lose like three hours of the rest of my day. Have not eaten that stuff since early last year. |
Pretty sure it is in a lot of the popular brands of chicken bouillon flavor used in Mexican food (knorr is one) |
Chipotle does not use MSG or other artificial flavors, colors or additives.
https://ir.chipotle.com/news-releases?item=122411 It could though be an allergy to another ingredient. There's something with their purple onions that get to me. No other purple onions bother me. I wonder if its what they wash them in. This affects salsas and guac. |
The part of "MSG" that can give headaches is the glutamate. There are glutamates in tons of things, it just so happens that MSG is a major source of them. So it is perfectly understandable for them to tell you that they don't "use MSG" , which they may not use directly, but it could be that something in their food contains A LOT of glutamates.
I have a child that reacts badly to glutamates and I had to do an elimination diet to find this out. So if you post what you eat there, I can let you know if it may contain a lot of glutamates. For example...cooked tomatoes contain a lot of naturally occurring glutamates. Broths contain a lot of naturally occurring glutamates. Hope this helps. |
Take a look at the possibility of histamine as the problem. Most of the choices in a burrito or bowl are going to be very high in histamine. All tomatoes are high, but green tomatoes are especially. Aged cheeses, and avocado are also high in histamine. Facilitating the breakdown of histamine by taking enzymes and also by supporting methylation will help with tolerance of histamine foods. |
Tyramine in the guacamole |
If you eat the brown rice, all brown rice contains arsenic. This is a fact. Look it up. That will trigger headaches. Eat white rice. |
Yes, I stopped eating chipotle about 2 years ago because each time I ate it my day was shot. I would nap for 2 hrs. This has nothing to do with portions. I regularly eat large meals, am active and not a big person.
I used to eat chipotle 2004-2012 regularly. Like twice a week. Yea sometimes I would feel full but never pass out tired immediately after a meal. I don’t know if chipotle changed your their ingredients or if it’s just me being 10+ years older. Probably both. I do get the sense that chipotle used to taste better and fresher though. I stopped eating it too. |
I dont get headaches from eating at chipotle, but I do when I am dehydrated (travel, exercise, or just drinking too little water sometimes with salty food). Try to eat less and drink lots of water and see if it changes anything. It could also be a specific ingredient or spice. |
Howdy,
I'm from Michigan, and I get a nasty day-long headache after eating at Chipotle. I always get the burrito with: black beans, white rice, chicken and cheese Today I left out the burrito wrap and just got a burrito bowl with the same ingredients (no sauces or anything - just what is on the list above). I also ate less than 1/3rd of the burrito bowl and I got the same headache. The worst part about this headache is... nothing can stop it. Looks like it's my last time eating there. Be well, D. in Detroit |
The part of MSG that gives headaches is the racism. There is zero proven link between MSG and headaches: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4870486/ Racists claimed Chinese food gave them headaches because of the MSG and the rumor spread, but there is no scientific backing to it whatsoever. |
I love seeing how this thread gets bumped! People googling chipotle headache all over the nation! Be well D in Detroit! |
Actually, a better conclusion— suggested in the article — is: Further studies are needed. It’s quite possible that there is a link between MSG and headaches — but only in a subset of the population, something not directly or adequately addressed in the studies cited in the article. |
"Further studies are needed" in this case is science speak for "we noticed that every single experiment that showed MSG causes headaches was seriously flawed but because this paper is a review of other papers and not an experiment we can't technically tell you they're wrong." |
. Yes, I get the worst headaches like an hour after eating Chipotle, I always notice it. I thought maybe the spices? But I love spice so I’m glad to hear I wasn’t going crazy thinking Chipolte gives me headaches |
