Chipotle headache

Oh, and no known allergies.

Most headaches are from dehydration. Salty food would definitely dehydrate you.

On a tangent, I do not understand the appeal of Chipotle, even with their emphasis on fresh ingredients. Having my rice and meat and what nots all wrapped up together is just very unappetizing.

There are plenty of decent grounds for criticizing Chipotle, but what you're criticizing is burritos, period.

Get the salad. It's jsut lettuce, meat, cheese, and salsa. If no headache, then it may be the tortillas, beans, or rice.

I used to eat Chipotle 3-5 times per week for years, but recently I get a severe headache and extreme thirst every time I go to chipotle. I think they've started adding MSG because those are the symptoms I get when I eat MSG.

Might it be the tortilla that does contain preservatives?

I get headaches when I eat too much protein at once. Maybe try omitting either beans o meat to see if that helps? Or forgo the burrito and get tacos and see if that changes anything. I eat the tacos and have never had a headache.

Ooh, let me get some rice. In a tortilla. Because that sounds awesome!

I emailed Chipotle to ask about MSG and received this response:

"Thank you for writing to ask about our fresh ingredients. I’m happy to report that we do not use MSG in any of our ingredients. So you and your husband can both feel free to enjoy anything on our menu. Thank you for writing and we look forward to serving you again soon!

Sincerely,

Chipotle Mexican Grill"

I automatically assume that any fast food places use MSG unless they specifically say otherwise. Baja Fresh states that they do not.

I do get migraines from citrus though.

i too get headaches now from eating chipotle...i think something changed in their food but i don't know exactly what.

I'm wondering what changed recently in their food, or perhaps one of their suppliers has added something.

They say there's no msg in their food, but they don't mention preservatives or additives, which could also trigger headaches in sensitive eaters.

I'm going to stay away from Chipotle, it's not worth the headache. I'd rather just cook for myself and be headache free.

On another note, I wrote to Chick fil A about their chicken sandwiches and they do use MSG. If I eat that I am pretty much knocked out (in severe pain) for the rest of the day. How can MSG be 'ok' if it can hurt someone like that? You might not die from it but it's definitely not good for you. If you're attuned to your body it will let you know what to eat and what to avoid.

Not everyone is sensitive to MSG. I'm not saying MSG is wholly without concern, but to say that because a food hurts some people it can't be good for anyone is absurd. Some people are allergic to strawberries, but does that mean they're bad for everyone?

I get very bad migraines from MSG (those Ramen noodles are a known culprit for me too) but have never had one after eating at Chipotle. I'm pretty sure that I would get a migraine if anything had MSG.

Maybe this will help you narrow it down. At Chipolte, I never eat the following items (because I don't like them):
* Sour cream
* Guacamole
* Pico de gallo

I do eat the spicy sauce, carnitas, fajita veggies, both types of beans and I always get plain rice without cilantro (don't like it).

I really hope they didn't add it to something that will make Chipotle off limits for me now.

Then stop eating at Chipotle.

"Doctor, it hurts when I do this."

"Well, stop doing that."

MSG tastes great, but I don't think chipotle uses it. Salt can dehydate you.
