Ha! They had to buy a dump to fit this into Squirrel Hill. Congratulations to the schools that passed.

My best friend lives in Pittsburg and is doing college visits. The college counselor gave them a list of every kid in Pitsburg (without names), their GPA, SAT score and the colleges acceptance. When a school accepted a child with a low grade the counselor (to my friends disappointment) would say, "black, Hispanic or athlete".

She was appalled. She said they still talk about diversity in terms of "Polish, italian, German and Irish".

You can't choose where your aging parents live.

Yes PittsburgH is still racially polarized. Even with its faults it is still spelled with an H. PittsburgH

I would be proud to employ her. Clearly her family knows something about success. On their own. Without handouts.

Unlikely.

I feel for her and a lot of you are judging her from your adult perspective when she is a teenager.

Her post could have been me during the college process. I did the extra stuff (sports, student council president, yearbook editor, job, etc.), was top 10% of my high school but as a middle class white girl it meant nothing. And this was 20 years ago, I can't imagine today.

I agree she comes off as young but, well, she is.

Her parents might live there because it's the "Jewish neighborhood"or they might live there to get her into a school that should have prepped her for college. There is NO WAY a school like Allderdice, who sends loads of kids to ivy's every year, didn't tell her that she needs lots of extra-curriculars, etc.

I don't like to pick on a 17 year old, but I agree that it was very poorly written. The shot at muslims and gays, even IF she was trying be farcical, was not written well enough to give any hint of tongue in cheek.

As a native Pgher, I can tell you that this type of class warfare, where people TRULY believe they won't get into college because they're not black or hispanic, who think quotas are the reason they're not President, is rampant. The class warfare is INSANE and it is built into the culture of that city; odd because even the working class folks come across as sourly conservative on immigration issues, etc. They truly do think the black people, native americans "foreigners" and especially the Asians / Indians are coming to take their ..

Nope the school hasn't changed since I was there a bunch of entitled little bits that get rude awakenings in the real world. Oh the F well.
Maybe she should've learned how to rap. What up Wiz?

Today she says the article was satire.

The fact that the satire was not obvious to, well anyone, is pretty much the final word on whether the schools made the right decision on her application.

...except it was quite obvious to several of us right here on this thread.

I saw her clip on the today show...she is extremely poised, handled herself well, sharp, intelligent, funny, thoughtful....i'd be proud as hell if she was my daughter.

trust me, if she does ok at michigan or psu, one of the top ivies will take her as a freshman transfer on the back of this.

Please. I was a literature major - this girl is no Voltaire or Swift.

Didn't say she was...but probably better than some of the editorial and opinion writers around the country.

Wasn't anymore of a scream that anything the Onion has published. It was a rage just because it was in the WSJ.
