Teen writes in WSJ letter to all colleges that rejected her- harsh!

It's frightening how many people don't recognize the satire in this letter in this allegedly well-educated area. While it's not the best thing I've ever read, it's funny because it's based in truth and she does a good job in a short amount of space.

Go Blue!!! Final 4!!!
And it's a good school! Why get upset about the other rejections?

Probably the first time she's been rejected for anything in her life.

It wasn't satire. And it wasn't valid.

Legally Blonde.

You probably would be a HUGE loser compared to today's admissions standards. If you could not get in a top 5 how ever many years ago it was that you were a teen, you probably would be lucky today if community college accepted your white ass.

Because these armchair "alturistic" do gooders are offended by the truth of their skim milk accomplishments.

Eeewwww, you called me old! I'm simply devastated. Hope you're not trying to get into a top school. You need to work on providing adequate supporting evidence for your point of view.

And the sad thing is, you don't even realize how very far out of touch you are.

Honestly, the ugliness and nastiness on here from both sides of this debate disturbs me more than the article itself. And people wonder where kids learn to be so mean. . .

She writes well enough to be a regular contributor to DCUM in 15 years. She'll marry a lawyer, dabble at something, get pregnant, have some kids, and then DCUM here she comes.

Oh yes, another devastating argument!

I would be proud to employ her. Clearly her family knows something about success. On their own. Without handouts.

Why would you be proud to employ her? Was it the bigoted "jokes" that could most certainly create a hostile environment? Her desire to learn new skills such as ____? Her respect for giving back to the community? Her parents money and connections? Her respect for family? Her love of Real Housewives?

Sounds like she WANTED a handout in the admission process, let's not kid ourselves.

I graduated in 2008. When did you?

Also, to clarify, I ATTENDED a top 5 school. However, my first choice was lower-ranked and I did not get in - a white guy and Asian guy did, though.

I would bet that she knew exactly what the "game" was and she and her family did whatever they could to get her into a top school and the cold, hard truth is she fell short. The suggestion these parents are disconnected seems laughable to me. (Of course, we never really know what goes on in someone's home, but there are enough facts here that I would be pretty darn surprised.)

And I also think the parents did her a disservice - she reacted like many a 17 year old would have, and she wrote an offensive, embarrasing, and frankly mediocre essay. They should have had the sense to step in and tell her to think about how this would make her look.
