What?

Is that supposed to be an insult to the PP? Do you shop at a grocery store? Someone has to run it you stupid twat.

Yes, it is. I am tired of being forced to bow at the altar of "small business people". Having children is a choice but ability of some loser to deal with regulations and make a payroll yada yada is something we should all worry about.

I don't care how hard it is for you to run your business. You chose to do it. I am going to do my best to promote policies that work for me and people like me, not you.

And I am going to promote business friendly policies so that losers like you can stay employed. Also you choose to have kids, so deal with it.

You can't afford me, loser. If you knew me you would beg me to work for you.

I am sorry I don't employ I don't employ entitled government workers. As far as affording you , I am pretty sure I can afford you ten times over.

I am not a government worker, loser. I work for a private company which gives me all the flexibility I want re: childcare. Because, guess what "business-woman" - there are many employees worth much more than 6 months of paid leave. But it's no that shocking that bottom dwellers like you have never met them.

If you are getting the flexibility you need then problem is solved the why are you trying impose your will on the whole society? I also don't believe a shit about you getting 6 months of leave unless you are saving up your vacation days. The best rated companies for working mothers do not give that much paid maternity leave so there is no freaking way in hell a loser like you is getting that much leave.. So you are not only a looser you are also a lier.

Have you traveled much? You sound like a card-carrying provincial American.

People from other countries are aghast when they hear our maternity and early childcare policies.

So you are an entitled government employee aren't you? I did travel a lot mostly for business purpose and still I don't see any reason why we should pay women to have babies.
society is more equal that way.
Why must the woman be without a paycheck and not the man too? Should hee not also make do without a salary?

Because they are not providing any goods and services for which compensation is deserved. They wanna get paid for doing nothing which I don't believe is fair.

This is not true. The maternity leave pay is a part of the price of the employee i.e. goods and services that she helps provide. Are you also against vacation? What about weekends and holidays? What about nights? According to you, genius, one should only be payed at the very moment he is performing a service.

It's discriminatory. Period. In order for society to continue to exist there must be more humans. Men + women provide that. Women must take time for their bodies to heal and, in most opinions, should take more time to care for their children. During all of this, women are w/o a paycheck. Men, in large part, are not. This is so despite the fact that women perform "jobs" that are as much, if not more, important.

If you think maternity leave is "doing nothing" than you are a complete dipshit who is either a 1) man or 2) person w/o kids. Don't give me any shit about this. I used to be use. I believed as you do. Until I had a child. Having a child is the hardest, and most important, job of all. Unless you want a society of crass, irresponsible, assholes. No? You want a civilized society? Then than the parents.

Its not about my felling on this matter. Its about the fact business should compensate individual for basically not performing their duties. I don't believe they should. Its completely unproductive solution from business perspective which would also deter businesses from hiring women.

For a great business-mind that you present yourself to be you lack the very basic economic sense. I think you are just an old bitter woman who was not very appreciated at work (so you had to leave to become a "small business owner") and now wants all other women to go through the same thing.

Btw, I never said I was getting 6 months paid leave. I said I had all the flexibility I need (and it helps that I am very flexible, too). So eat your heart out.

Please stop, you are embarrassing yourself by impersonating a business woman. I bet your small business has one employee.

how am I lacking business sense ? Please explain. Firstly I am not a small business owner. I am part owner in a midsize business who have been screwed by government regulation like FLMA. I don't believe I should have to pay people to screw me.

Again I am trying to stop you from getting amazing benefits from your employer. What I am trying to stop is you imposing your will on rest of us. that is all.

It's a sad thread, because, ultimately, I think it is about priorities and the anger around perceived priorities.

Parents want policies that are favorable to their expectations and are outraged and want more generous leave policies, with pay, and want the country as a whole to support them because, perhaps, they see having children as some superior pursuit.

Other workers have other priorities. A few days ago, someone posted about their husband with a chronic illness who couldn't be at work and overwhelmingly, posters told him that he deserved to be fired. To be fair, I don't have anything to say about that particular situation...I'm not the OP and I have no idea what the circumstances were....but it brought something interesting up. Surely, if I didn't know the details, no one else did. Yet, nearly everyone on the thread thought he should be fired.

Dueling priorities. Mothers want generous leave. People with chronic illnesses want generous leave. But there doesn't seem to be any common ground...no joint effort to address the real issue, which is the cognitive dissonance between wanting low taxes and no government until we actually need something and then wanting to kill each other for the legitimacy of our need.

Crazy.

Well said. Unfortunately it appears that two lunatics are trying to out-ignorant one another and this thoughtful reply got lost.

Your argument that people want to be paid to "do nothing" is nonsense. Maternity leave is a benefit that's a part of a total compensation package. So, by providing it, you are paying for the good/services that employee helps produce when she is not on the leave (a vast majority of time).

And yes, I am trying to impose the will to the "rest of us" because it would work to my advantage even though I don't have an issue with the current employer. However, you should note that "us" is not a single group here. What helps me might not help you and vice versa. And that's fine, for as long as you admit to your self-interest and stop pretending you are a great defender of noble principles.

I am a man not a woman. Also, I am a part owner in a very successful mid size business which I worked very hard for . Hard work is something you will never ever understand. You will never appreciate the risk it takes to get a successful business going. This is why I get defensive when people want to get paid for doing nothing.

Again you didn't explain how I am lacking business sense. So under your scenario am I allowed to pay women less because they will take a maternity leave. Also no business wants to deal with future compensation , ever.
Again you are welcome to advocate your belief and I am will choose to advocate mine.

I tend to think that businesses that can't afford to pay their workers fairly really can't afford to stay in business.
