The saddest song of all time is She Moved Through the Fair. It is very beautiful too, which just really wrings the listener. Everybody covers it but I like the b-tribe version.

Really? We sing this almost daily to our toddlers as a bed-time song. It's got a slight melancholy bridge, but it ends up uplifting with the bear welcoming the father home. And the final chorus is about how the father rekindles his belief in Pooh Corner.

There are many, many songs which are sadder than this song even without the ending and do not have an uplifting twist at the end...like Puff the Magic Dragon.

NP but it has always made me sad too. Not sure it gets my vote for saddest of all time but it does make me tear up when I hear it.

I remember this song making me sob when I was little. I hid under the coffee table with my blanket, just weeping. I'll never forget it.
