Awful time to be a Michigan

This. The only potential scandal would be if Michigan tried to cover it up. Doesn’t sound like it since he’s done.

People would save themselves so much grief if they learned impulse control.

Lol, no.

Sure it is. Their most famous football alum has *multiple* cheating scandals.

So? No one GAF....

Ehhh, You got a 10 page thread on an obscure mommy forum saying otherwise....

If the school has a toxic sports culture, it has a bearing on the school. Same would be said for any SEC school that cares this much about football.

I mean, they knew weeks ago and potentially hid that from recruits until JUST after signing day. Sure, the process takes time, but that raises plenty of eyebrows action was only taken AFTER he lost to OSU and after recruits signed.

This is a HUGE story and won't disappear quickly

No, it's not.

OP clearly had other intentions starting this post as a troll/poser. Unfortunately, DCUM is too smart for that. The actions of one man do not reflect an entire university and the actions of a football coach have zero impact on the academic integrity. I feel sorry for the victim and for Moore’s family. I’m glad the university acted swiftly and removed an individual who does not represent the values of the school.

OP here. Proud alum of Michigan EECS and attended every home game from 99–03 during Carr/Brady/Henson era. No other intentions beyond hearing from an academic-focused, non-football crowd away from A2.

DP. If it reassures you, my junior, female interested in ME from out of state, not only wouldn't care about this scandal, but is unlikely to ever hear about it unless I tell her, or unless she gets in and starts paying attention to football. The school's reputation in engineering is intact.

There is no way that students aren't talking about this. Maybe she doesn't care, but this is a huge nationwide story and surely being talked about even "ME out of state students"

Not by my kid, who is the above real-life ME out of state prospective applicant.

Really, though, what aspect of this is a stain on a school - of what, 30k undergrads? - that is going to keep applicants away? This one jerk is a spec of dust, who is not only gone but wasn't involved with academics in the first place.

Selfishly, I hope you are right, that applicants are kept away in droves, leaving my kid a higher chance of admission.

Exactly. Many of us don't care about a university's football program at all.

Please. Mens' sports EVERYWHERE are toxic. This isn't a Michigan problem.

If you're looking for a bigger scandal -- it was last year with President Ono. And, he got his just desserts.

You want actual football analysis? This will set the program back years. Any potential recruit will be able to transfer and now Michigan has to scramble to find a coach late in the hiring cycle. The star QB already removed UM from social profiles and is likely gone (he wasn't worth the money they paid him anyways ). To go from national champion to disgraceful this fast is impressive.

That's my point. If a DC based mommy forum's most active discussion is Michigan football, it's a big deal.

Look, weirdo, if your kid is soooo into Michigan they have to know about this. It’s national news. Are you telling us she doesn’t look at Michigan’s website? Doesn’t google the school from time to time to see what’s happening at the school? Doesn’t talk to her mother?

I am not a big football fan either but college football brings in a TON of money for schools like Michigan (usually via tv rights) that turn around and fund other programs at the school. BIG money. It's wild.
