According to the assessment, on 11 September, the day after conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Patel arrived in Provo, Utah, but refused to leave the FBI jet without an appropriate raid jacket. A described “highly respected” source in the report explained that agents working the Kirk investigation had to stop their work to find a medium-sized jacket for Patel. When a female agent’s jacket was delivered, Patel complained about missing Velcro patches on the sleeves and refused to disembark until Swat team members removed patches from their own uniforms and attached them to the borrowed jacket.

The same source confirmed media reports that Patel “yelled” at the special agent-in-charge and directed “an expletive-laden tirade” over “perceived blunders” in the case. Dan Bongino, the deputy director, later telephoned to apologize, “saying that never should have happened”.

Both Patel and Bongino face criticism for what multiple sources describe as an excessive focus on social media. FBI employees reported hearing more about the bureau’s mission from leadership’s social media posts than through official internal channels.

Bongino, who lacks traditional FBI experience and was granted a Patel-authorized waiver exempting him from standard polygraph screening, is described by one source as “something of a clown”.

In one incident, Patel became upset after learning that FBI personnel at Quantico had discussed his request to be issued an FBI firearm. When details leaked, he ordered polygraph examinations for everyone involved to identify who had criticized him. One respected FBI leader in the assessment called the order “needlessly punitive”.

Bongino was a NYC cop and then secret service for years. Love how he’s described by this source

There are very good reasons for Trump to want incompetency at the FBI. Putting alt right clowns like Patel and Bongino in leadership is exactly what Trump wants. I don't see that changing.

Kash is terrific,
With the crazy eyes,
They call ‘em googley eyes.
Googley-eyed Kash.

But they say he wears a ladies jacket,
So we’ll have to see what happens.

Not sure why you think that being NYPD and secret service automatically make someone "not a clown".

Bongo is largely regarded as a complete clown by the FBI rank and file.

+1 Four years as a cop and ten years as a rank and file in a hugely troubled federal agency in no way gives someone the experience to be second in command of the most elite law enforcement in the world. When Trump first made known that he was going to nominate Patel he promised the FBI that he would elevate someone qualified within the current leadership as deputy director, but then gave them yet another podcaster gadfly instead. One who complains about having to go to work in the morning.

+2. Kash patel’s was a low level DOJ official in the first Trump administration who gained the loyalty of Trump for mindlessly defending him and refusing to acknowledge that Trump lost the 2020 election. He said he “had not heard” that a Capitol police officer was bludgeoned to death by domestic terrorists on January 6 when asked about his defense of various January 6 criminals.
Bogino can’t even pass a background check and what little renown he has comes from being a right wing podcaster.

People have been pointing out Kash Patel’s use of govt jets for private activities for most of his 6 month tenure as FBI head. He’s immune to shame and Trump certainly isn’t going to punish him for using his resources from his public office to enrich himself.

FBI Director Kash Patel's travel to watch his girlfriend sing at a Pennsylvania sporting event is now being investigated by the top Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee.

Citing a series of recent media reports, the committee Democrats allege Patel has used the FBI's Gulfstream passenger jet for a series of recent flights for a "date night" in Tennessee and an outing with friends in Texas.

Bongino has already been sidelined because they appointed the Missouri AG as co-deputy director to serve alongside him months ago. Bongino not only won’t take over for Patel, he’ll probably be ousted as well if they get rid of Kash.

As I was saying…

Meanwhile Kash is recording podcasts with his girlfriend after royally effing the investigation into the Brown shooting.

Eager for Center Stage, Patel Casts Aside Caution in Statements as F.B.I. Leader
Kash Patel’s impulse to publicize the work of the bureau under his leadership has revived questions about his competence and his future in the administration.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/15/us/politics/kash-patel-fbi.html

A heinous act of violence. A faceless killer on the loose. A desperate manhunt. An F.B.I. director with a finger poised over the “post” button on his social media account.

These circumstances collided over the weekend during the search to find the suspect who opened fire on a Brown University classroom, killing two people and injuring nine others. They came after Kash Patel, the bureau’s self-promotional top official, reported on X that his agents had apprehended “a person of interest in a hotel room” in Rhode Island, acting on a lead from local law enforcement.
Anonymous
But Kash has finally found an FBI "field jacket" that fits him and he can wear when he wants to play dress-up at a press conference. OK, so it's woman's jacket, that doesn't matter. Let this wonky-eyed bungler have his fun!
