He's the only masculine man in this series.

The acting is so stilted (at least most of the white actors) they sound like high school kids performing their lines. Or like Carrie Underwood when they did the live stage performance of the Sound of Music. Does it get better?

Edith Wharton this sure isn't.

It isn’t even Edith Bunker.

OMG, this made me laugh so hard!!

This, and Bertha is wearing red and white in the scenes for the ball (the same dress she's wearing in a bunch of the promos for this season). No way George dies. Agree that Morgan Spector is the hottest thing on the show, male or female, and they aren't going to kill him off. More likely the shooting will be used as a device to get the Russells all back together after being at odds all season, and next season will be about all four of them conquering their respective spheres.

I am genuinely curious if Larry and Marion actually get married. I feel like the show has been trying to push them together since the beginning (old money NY marrying new money NY) and part of me really wants it because I think it will force the two households to collide a bit more, and I always enjoy that. One of my favorite dynamics on the show is when the butlers of the respective houses get together and gossip and share tips, I don't know why but I find this hilarious and delightful. Would also enjoy a lot more scenes with both Carrie Coon and Christine Baranski, and you are welcome to throw some Mrs. Astor and Mrs. Fish into that mix at will. I like these actresses and those characters have tons of potential and I want more passive aggressive fighting over how things are supposed to be done.

The only problem is that Larry and Marion are the two drippiest, dullest characters on the show and I'm not particularly invested in their romance.

So true. I did notice that Larry becomes far less drippy when he's interacting with his father. He's portrayed as much more decisive and far less soft spoken and annoying.

Marian’s storylines are so dull. Just broken engagements. And she was angry with Larry because he went to a “house of ill repute” but moreso bc he lied to her, but now that Jack confirmed that Larry wasn’t with a prostitute, she’s ready to forgive him? He still lied to her.

+1 Even when they give her something that should be controversial (having a job, having a black best friend, supporting suffrage), they never show any resulting controversy. There's no pushback. No withdrawn invitations. No cut direct for behaving in ways that a well-bred lady of the time would not. Just "look at me I'm Mary Sue now the richest man in town is obsessed with me for no apparent reason."

Are they killing off George Russell? I was shocked. Then Larry takes over. They finally gave Oscar some humanity (though I can’t stand looking at him, so unattractive).

No way will they kill him off.

These characters are so WEAK. It is like watching Dynasty set in the 1880s instead of the 1980s. Step it up, Fellowes.

Can someone remind me of the “secret” in Peggy’s past?

Was married, had a son who was given up for adoption (this part is confusing to me, I think she was told he died and didn'trealize he was placed for adoption. But why??) and then the son adopted by another family died last season.

That last episode when Oscar broke down in front of Agnes, Ada, and Marion really gutted me. Prior to that, I found him insufferable.

It's amazing how much better Downton Abbey was than this nonsense. Everything in this show is clearly on a set, whereas with Downton Abbey, they filmed in real places. The writing was so much better, too. I honestly think Fellowes doesn't like Americans. Even his American characters on DA were superficial and cartoonish.

Thank you! This actually really helped and I'm kind of embarrassed I didn't follow it well in real time.
