The Gilded Age

I watched the whole thing. It’s so bad! It’s so good! The costumes are amazing except I don’t know what happened to Marian’s boobs. They must have left to try to find her personality.

Nothing makes sense and it’s so tedious and then they Regina George a dude and I am back in. Also the scene where the aunts find out Jack made 300,000. Everything else should be watched on mute.

Marian never had much in the way of boobs. I noticed that from the first season; and she looks great.

Denee Benton's pink ballgown makes her look pregnant. Costumes in this episode weren't great.

Gee, you sound like so much fun. I bet you have loads of friends (who secretly can’t stand you).

I find the formal costumes to be (generally) completely unbelievable. Every time there’s a formal occasion - the opera, a ball, etc. - the women look like they’re dressing up as princesses for Halloween. Just ridiculous.

Ok, I just fell out of bed from laughing SO HARD at this!!!

I also absolutely cannot figure out what makes her mouth look so incredibly weird on this show.

It is weird. It’s like she has one false tooth, or something.

Wealthy women really dressed up. All the costumes are based on genuine dresses by Worth and other leading couture designers of the day. The history and precedence backs it up because the gilded age wealth were taking their cues from the European aristocracy.

LOL, so you know nothing of the actual history of the time period. Don’t you feel stupid admitting that?

Wow. Are you generally this unpleasant and nasty to everyone you disagree with?

Oscar is a scene stealer. I need a spin-off starring Oscar. I would watch THAT.

Great piece by Peggy Noonan about The Gilded Age:

"The dialogue is often hopeless. From memory, Gladys Russell to her husband, the duke: But I have not had word as to my father’s condition since receiving the telegram alerting us to his shooting as we left the port of Southampton en route to the reunion."

It is absolutely unreal how much time these people spend arriving at places, leaving places, and being greeted at places.

I am not the one who wrote that comment, but I am surprised when people complain about things /costumes in this show when they are historically accurate. All you need to do is have a simple search to find this out. It is one thing to say you don't like the dress of that time period, but it is another to complain that the costume designer and team are making costumes that match the time period!

It always baffles me how little people know about history.

I recently stayed at a hotel that mandated dress code and getting dressed up after a certain time at night. Dinners were multi-course affairs that took a long time. It was fun, but I can't imagine doing that every night like what they did in the Gilded Age. I did not visit because of the Gilded Age, it was an extended family trip situation.

I like the show and think season 3 is the best so far. I love the costumes and the sets. The production cost much be outrageous-renting Newport mansions, sets for NYC, etc. Plus, they always need to wear new outfits because during that time the wealthy did not repeat!
