+1 I went to one of the top high public schools in the state and 10% of my graduating class went to UNC. I had one classmate who went to Wake Forest. Other classmates went to NC State, Appalachian State, East Carolina or UNC Wilmington. Also with UNC...you could apply early decision in-state and my parents made it pretty clear that if we got in, that's where we were going, so it's the only college I applied to. Both my sisters went to UNC, too. |
Because of COST, not because there is an issue with the school. Most people want the $7-9k tuition, it’s an enormous difference. |

Beating a dead horse, but you know you don’t have to click on it, right? |
| Duke is hitting on all cylinders now all-time application record 60 thousand for a freshman class of only 1700 kids. The campus is beautiful and entire sports program is doing great as opposed to UNC-CH which is imploding basketball program mediocre at best and $10 plus million for a huge pr mess. NC hired a great hoops coach. Also the state of North Carolina has experienced tremendous population grorwth and demographic changes. Lots of retirees and families from Northeast and Midwest who identify more with one of the top schools in the country Duke so the fan base disparity between the Blue Devils and Tar Heels is minimal and everyone likes a winner which is obviously Duke. |
| PLEASE STOP WITH UNCCH or UNC-CH, no one does that. Thank you! |
| ^NC State hired great basketball coach. |
Why have they gone so deep and so long with the WL this year? Is it a miscalc on yield? Something else? |
The Dook booster has entered the chat. Start your own Dook thread and stop hijacking this one, which is re how NC high school students view Wake Forest. Also learn to spell. |

Exactly...get over it... your kid didn't make the WF cut! |
I’m excited to see what he does. |
| There are several branches of the university-Wilmington, Greensboro, Asheville, and Chapel Hill. How’s the Belichick hire working out for the branch in Chapel Hill. |
| New State hoops coach probably can count on 2 wins against that team from Chapel Hill. |
Same -- my parents were really clear that if I got into UNC, that was where I was going. I think in state tuition was something like $4000 for the year. I applied to private colleges and got into about half, and even got a half scholarship to one (BU, which is generous to NMSFs), but they were all so much more expensive, it didn't make sense. I was worried it would feel like an extension of high school since my entire AP English class went there, but then I realized that every school in NC sent their entire AP English class there. That, plus the brilliant out of state kids. |
