Lol—At least two Sidwell students were admitted to Duke from this year’s graduating class. They both chose Ivies over Duke. Duke usually admits a couple of Sidwell students each year. The problem is that those students almost always get admitted to an Ivy as well. They usually choose the Ivy. Duke knows this and I’m sure Sidwell is not its favorite DC Metro private school [shrug]. |
At least 12 students are going to UVA from Potomac’s class of ‘25. UVA is very popular at that school! |
That’s not nice. Sidwell has some really dedicated haters. 🙄 |
| Out of curiosity how do top Catholic schools like Notre Dame and Holy Cross do at Sidwell. Excluded Georgetown . Know ND and HC do well at Georgetown Prep, Gonzaga and Stone Ridge. |
None of those schools are particularly popular/sought after by SFS students. I haven’t heard of a student going to HC or ND in years. There are at least one or two students who go to BC and Georgetown every year (more are always admitted though). Outside of Ivy+ universities, Northwestern, WashU, NYU, and a few SLACs (Middlebury, Pomona, Swat, Amherst, Colby, Colgate) are pretty popular. Tulane was especially popular this year (definitely more so than in years past). |
| Thanks why a BC over more prestigious Holy Cross or Notre Dame? |
Boston is a far better city to spend 4 years than South Bend or Worcester. |
| ^Same could be said about New Haven or Hamilton NY. |
Yale’s Ivy League status is a huge mitigating factor—the city is less important in that instance. Notre Dame, HC, and Hamilton have a much bigger hurdle to clear because of their locations. That’s why you don’t see a lot of Sidwell students clambering to get into those schools. These are city/city-adjacent kids. |
| Westminster Atlanta kids aren't city/city-adjacent? |
Dumb decision to make. Always ND over BC. |
| ^Agree would take ND and HC over BC 7 days a week. |
That’s you. Other people may make different decisions. |
Boston is a great city but South Bend is immaterial for Notre Dame. NDs campus and college experience Trump nearly all others. |
Well, Sidwell’s students seem to disagree—most of them obviously don’t want to go to ND. That’s fine because everything doesn’t have to be for everyone. Move on. |
