These guys just signed up to provide the Trump crime family free legal services for life. Trump doesn’t pay his lawyers.

Incredibly corrupt.

Yup. I am surprised Paul Weiss would agree to this. They could have litigated it.

President Trump and the head of the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP have reached a deal under which Mr. Trump will drop the executive order he leveled against the firm, Mr. Trump said on Thursday.

In the deal, Mr. Trump said, the firm agreed to a series of commitments, including to represent clients no matter their political affiliation and contribute $40 million in legal services to causes Mr. Trump has championed, including “the President’s Task Force to Combat Antisemitism, and other mutually agreed projects.”

It’s unclear how the money will be used to help the task force. The firm also said it agreed to conduct an audit to ensure its hiring practices are merit based.

The deal was reached after the head of the firm, Brad Karp, went to the White House this week and had a face-to-face meeting with Mr. Trump to discuss a resolution. Members of the legal profession said in interviews that they were surprised by the deal, as it appears as if the firm — which is dominated by Democrats — was capitulating to Mr. Trump over an executive order that is likely illegal.

I will be firing Paul Weiss from a case tomorrow morning

I hope you are trolling. Unless your case is being managed by firm leadership (unlikely) your attorney likely had nothing to do with this decision.

Uh, this is now a regime law firm. I wouldn't trust them with anything that might be considered, now or in the future, not in line with administration initiatives. Also, if they are giving lifetime free advice to Trump then I doubt they will follow ethics rules.

+1 would not trust them to strongly advocate for my company's interests vs trying to appear the govt

Also no interest in subsidizing this $40M bribe. That $$ comes from clients, who pay the very high rates for these law firms.

Why would anyone ever hire PW to litigate against the federal government?

There's an inherent conflict of interest; you can't trust your PW attorneys to have your back (as a client) in a case where the federal government is on the other side of the table or court room.

Did PW just incinerate their entire federal government practice?

This is terrible. The only way to fight it is if the top 100 law firms band together.

Add WilmerHale to the list for the crime of employing Robert Mueller while I was in college. I’m 52.

They need to band together. They are being very foolish not to team up to fight against this. This is literally the 3rd or 4th law firm that is being targeted. Eliminating rule of law and destroying the judicial system will eliminate the purpose of their services. Lawyers are useless or significantly less valuable when the law becomes an arbitrary system with kangaroo courts.

this, they are doing one by one. and these are the largest and most powerful firms. when they cave, everybody else will learn the lesson and fall in line.

I think they will ban all non-Pro-Trump attorneys from federal buildings and revoke all of their security clearances. It's an effective tactic. If the lawyers sue, they lose clients, and are "out of favor" with Dear Leader. If they cave, they're now on the Trump team. It's a great way to paralyze the legal system. No attorneys will be able to file anything in federal court, so no more lawsuits against the Trump administration.

Jenner and Block got an EO too.

Very curious how this will all play out? Can we keep track of what each firm is doing? What is Covington doing?

And did a judge block Perkin's EO as unconditional? That doesn't stop or prevent Trump from issuing similar EOs to other firms?

I feel like people are not paying enough attention to this. None of the other issues matter much if lawyers bend the knee because there won't be anyone left to represent them in court against the administration.

Law firms need to band together but lawyers are so insanely rule abiding that they’re probably analyzing anti trust laws blah blah to consider whether they can.

They need to act. Now.

It sounded like Jenner and Wilmerhale intend to fight. I'm going to guess corporate partners want to bend the knee and litigation partners want to fight.

I hope so. What I read about the Wilmer order sounds just completely intolerable - Wilmer lawyers banned from talking to government employees?
