Are we talking about Trump's vendetta against Covington and Perkins Coie

Yeah that’s good advice for 2 years from now…if we even have elections by then.

These guys just signed up to provide the Trump crime family free legal services for life. Trump doesn’t pay his lawyers.

Incredibly corrupt.

Was it the law firm’s idea or an ask from the administration?

Yup. I am surprised Paul Weiss would agree to this. They could have litigated it.

President Trump and the head of the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP have reached a deal under which Mr. Trump will drop the executive order he leveled against the firm, Mr. Trump said on Thursday.

In the deal, Mr. Trump said, the firm agreed to a series of commitments, including to represent clients no matter their political affiliation and contribute $40 million in legal services to causes Mr. Trump has championed, including “the President’s Task Force to Combat Antisemitism, and other mutually agreed projects.”

It’s unclear how the money will be used to help the task force. The firm also said it agreed to conduct an audit to ensure its hiring practices are merit based.

The deal was reached after the head of the firm, Brad Karp, went to the White House this week and had a face-to-face meeting with Mr. Trump to discuss a resolution. Members of the legal profession said in interviews that they were surprised by the deal, as it appears as if the firm — which is dominated by Democrats — was capitulating to Mr. Trump over an executive order that is likely illegal.

Trump is extorting everyone. They’d rather pay him to go away than lose everything.

This year, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, agreed to pay $25 million to settle a lawsuit Mr. Trump filed in 2021 over the suspension of his Facebook and Instagram accounts after the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol. In that case, most of the money went to Mr. Trump’s future presidential library.

Very depressing they didn't litigate this. A firm full of litigators and this is most important litigation of their careers.

Everyone is bending.

That's what happens in authoritarian regimes. Everyone bends to the executive. No matter how corrupt and unreasonable. I can't believe he's faulting them for prosecuting the Jan 6 terrorists. I wonder how that makes the Law Enforcement officers who defended the Capitol that day feel.

I hope you are trolling. Unless your case is being managed by firm leadership (unlikely) your attorney likely had nothing to do with this decision.

My case is against the government. I don’t want a firm that is in bed with the government. Can’t trust them

+1

Couldn't they just have piggybacked off the lawsuit that Perkins brought, rep'd by W&C? The first firm had already gone out on a limb and the courts were very receptive.

I’d be interested to hear if you follow through. As always, the push and meaningful change comes through clients, not necessarily their lawyers.

Why would this client want her company’s name associated with Paul Weiss?

Uh, this is now a regime law firm. I wouldn't trust them with anything that might be considered, now or in the future, not in line with administration initiatives. Also, if they are giving lifetime free advice to Trump then I doubt they will follow ethics rules.
