Before these RTO orders actually go into effect, do you all plan to go in to the office before then? Knowing that politicals will view that more favorably? Or just wait until you’re actually required to be there every day?

Why would there be any substantial period of time before it goes into effect?

I assume once the order is issued, it will go into effect within a week or two.

I'm not sure it will be that easy. I mean it may go into effect in theory - but there are a lot of things to work out. Offices not big enough for all staff. How to handle fully remote workers. etc etc.

Yup. This is the level of intelligence we’re working with here.

Well I don’t have an office (even though I’m local to DC). I have a place where I can go to pick up a new badge or get my computer fixed. But I have to arrange for someone to let me in because I don’t have direct building access and then no one I work with would be there because they’re spread all over. So no I won’t be going into a place that doesn’t exist.

Yet Chase is full time back in office. Yet DCUM claims cause Feds are lower paid they should work from home. Yet they make almost double a Chase employee makes.

"According to FOX 5 DC, a single adult needs an annual salary of $119,392 to live comfortably in Washington, DC. For two working adults with two children, the combined salaries needed are $283,712."

Is it your bosses job to make you feel comfortable?

Plus $67,800 if husband and wife work at chase is $135,600. Plenty of money for a couple with no kids, one used car in a small one bedroom rental.

-I'm just as productive at home!
-No you're not!
-I'm going to stop working unpaid OT if I have to RTO
-There's not enough office space!
-Traffic!
-This will cause chaos
-That's the point!
-Feds agreed to lower wages in exchange for flexibility
-No one promised you telework was forever
-People went to the office 40 hours a week before and so can you

Will you be my friend?

Again. Where are you getting the idea that Chase employees in DC earn $67,800 a year?

Oh yes it will Musk is cleaning house he is Mr skeleton crew

Jobs are toast

Musk is a private citizen essentially running a think tank for social media clout. And he may have the president’s ear, but members of Congress don’t like him and aren’t going to push something through just because Musk wants it.

What makes you think that legislation is required?

What makes you think it’s not?

More than a rudimentary knowledge of the way toe federal government works?

Please tell us, PP, what legislation is required for the executive branch to impose RTO measures?

It's all smoke and mirrors and theater for the base.

There is a proven track record for Elon and Trump. They dismantle quickly in the name of dismantling, there is no regard to doing things the best way, just the fast way. Fall out doesn't matter and might be part of the goal.

Good luck with that. Bro’s going to find out that the federal government is not Twitter.

And that Congress doesn't necessarily like to be circumvented and treated as powerless. If he doesn't watch out the Dems and Republicans on capitol hill might actually start seeing eye to eye on a few things.

And start . . . what? Passing laws by veto-proof margins regarding whether federal employees can work form home, rather than be required to return to the office?

Seriously, some of you are so stupid it's a wonder you can turn your computers on. You do not make a compelling case that the federal workforce is filled with the best and the brightest.

Someone with so little reading comprehension should avoid throwing around insults like that.

RTO. That's why it's called "work."
Feds did not agree to lower salaries to WFH. People agreed to accept federal jobs at the pay scale offered. If RTO makes that undesirable, it's same as a company moving it's offices from Tysons to Reston. Some employees are effed and have a new bad commute. They can seek other employers.
Downtown DC is empty. Wasn't precovid.

I am not union so no lawsuits to drag out - just a remote employee with stellar performance. Besides looking for jobs in private sector what else can I do? Have been a remote employee since pre pandemic. You all have been sane in your commentary about doge but it seems that all hope is lost with it coming from Trump now. I really love my job and I’d move back if it wasn’t for my kids and schools.

Elon’s going to find out pretty quickly that sending people to Mars will be so much easier than sending them back to their desks.

Good, I do not want them back at their desks, I want their positions eliminated.

Why? Which positions, specifically, do you want eliminated?

Because some people just want to hurt others. They don't care as long as they can claim they "owned the libs". But when their SSA appeal is delayed for months because of insufficient staffing, they'll be screaming.

I am not a Fed, but I have a serious question…why do you want their positions removed? How f**ked up is your own life that you are salivating at the idea of people losing their livelihood? What difference does it make to you or I as to what is their work location?

Frankly, all these comments coming from people wanting Feds in office etc etc are coming from a section of population that is not happy with their lives and the only thing that makes such people happy is seeing others in misery.

These are real families, real lives we are discussing here, these Feds are good, productive members of society. Have some empathy and respect for their work or life circumstances.

Also, spare me the drivel about waste and abuse in government, if you were serious about government spending then you wouldn’t have voted in a bankrupt billionaire who added 9 trillion to debt just so his 0.1% buddies could get even richer. It’s because of stupid people like you workers are losing protections and work/life balance, you all are too eager to lick the boots of the billionaire class. For what? I can’t figure out.
