How would that help? It wouldn't. Stronger parenting would help. Stronger consequences for these kids and parents.

Who will enforce "consequences"? Police? Did they after Friday? What did former Police chief now working officially for mcps have to say after Friday?

The police chief working for MCPS is not responsible for what happens off campus. Parents are. Arrest the kids fighting and charge them. Charge the parents with neglect and failing to supervise their kids. MCPS is only responsible for what happens on campus.

Per some posters, it is a "tradition"? Why O' why?

School rivalries at their finest.

Just cancel the games if the kids cannot behave or don't let spectators.

Do we know yet if it was spectators instigating or participating in Friday's "fight?" Could they have been non spectator students who were in the area if this was at the shopping plaza? Can anyone confirm? Few posters up thread have asked if this has been confirmed and where "fight" took place - school grounds during game, after game or off campus?

And rlease them back into the schools? Many have asked. No answers from school nor district.

MCPS has tried to make restrictions on football games last year with the ID policy and limiting the number of spectators. I doubt they’ll even try to lift down restrictions..

It’s Deja vu. How many times are BCC kids going to be allowed to disrupt and assault freely after football games? You would have thought after how things got out of hand last year that things would be different this year, but nope, it’s more of the same.

Whatever MCPS did last year with those kids, which likely involved RJ, clearly didn’t work.

[MCPS, county police to focus on school safety collaboration:

https://moco360.media/2024/09/05/mcps-county-police-to-focus-on-school-safety-collaboration/

"Acting Assistant Chief David McBain said communication is an “overwhelming positive” for the police and the school system going into the new year. McBain said the police department has met with Jones and Taylor, as well as meeting with athletic coordinators to address safety at sporting events."]

🤔 What happened Friday?

Nothing

If this was off campus, not much they could do in terms of MCPS. Police CAN arrest them.

I believe MCPS can hold students accountable for bad behavior off campus with disciplinary measures at school, even if the incident occurred off-campus. They just choose not to.

Lets start with MCPS holding kids and parents accountable on campus first. They should not have open games to students, just parents of players for those two schools.

No they can do that in very specific situation in which the behavior continues into school and disrupts the learning environment or it’s an off campus school sponsored item like a field trip. MCPS does not just have blanket discipline authority for off campus out of school time behavior.

Folks have identified the neighborhood plaza, which was not even right on top of the football stadium.

I don't know. The video is of two boys fighting, totally unclear whether either or both of them go to BCC or WJ. The police were literally right on top of the situation and it was broken up in under a minute.

Teens fighting isn't great, but this does not feel like a four alarm fire to me. Certainly nothing like what happened after last year's game, and maybe that demonstrates that whatever steps have already been taken are starting to work.

Which policy is this spelled out in?

lol. Let these kids argue they weren’t actually at the football game. I would suspend them then let them try to prove that.

Interestingly, Monday came and went and this fight was not picked up by news outlets or officially confirmed or denied by MCPS. How'd did MoCo officials succeed in suppressing this story?

I was at the game. It was a great event with lots of student spirit, parents, teachers and staff. There were tons of police and no issues on school campus. There is no need to cancel anything. Mcps and the police did a great job.
