SIF was founded by Chris Butler (a white man living in Hawaii) who tried to join a Hare-Krishna but Chris Butler was denounced by the main leader of that movement so Butler kept moving to the fringe until he ultimately founded SIF. SIF has been described as a "cult" and denounced for being homophobic and misogynistic.
