People think it's racism that public projects run through minority neighborhoods. It's simply because those neighborhoods don't have expensive legal representation to stop "things I don't like." |
And why do these neighborhoods not have that? |
Agreed! Infrastructure work gets done quick and cheap in China because people don’t have rights. The US is the most expensive country in the world to do infrastructure projects - it’s the far extreme because everyone gets a say. A middle path is better but how to get there in our country - is it possible? |
It's not true that everyone gets a say. The wealthy and well-connected get a say. |
Interesting then that the big, expensive real estate development law firms are among Greater Greater Washington’s biggest funders (along with the Chevy Chase Land Co with its history of racial covenants). |

What a waste of money that light rail POS has been in DC. Suspect Purple Line will be an even bigger waste. |
This is the face of fascism. Lie down and do exactly what your government tells you to do without question or challenge. Screw you. |
I live off of EWH between Silver Spring and Bethesda. It is crowded every morning. |
The face of fascism is when you have your shed on county property and you don't want to move it so you file an adverse possession claim. https://caselaw.findlaw.com/court/md-court-of-appeals/1723766.html The face of fascism is when you get your municipality to pay an expert to go look for an endangered species, but the expert doesn't find any, but you file a lawsuit anyway, which you can do because you're your own lawyer. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dr-gridlock/wp/2014/11/06/chevy-chase-approves-25000-to-search-for-endangered-species-dna-near-purple-line/ The face of fascism is when the judge in the lawsuit, who should have recused himself, delays issuing a final ruling for over a year, because without any final ruling, there can't be any appeal of the final ruling. https://wtop.com/maryland/2017/05/purple-line-judge-issues-his-final-ruling-on-light-rail-project/ No, wait, that's not the face of fascism, that's the face of well-connected people who think they shouldn't have to accept no for an answer. It turns out they did have to accept no for an answer. Unfortunately we're all on the hook for the additional costs and delays caused by their actions. |
Could you please explain what is interesting about this? |
| May not be exactly be fascism but the development lobby (which backed the Purple Line to unlock properties for big projects) seems to have harnessed pro-transit “progressives” as the useful idiots of property rights Libertarians and grifting Trumpers. |
You are truly smooth-brained. There are no Trumpers in Chevy Chase save for the political appointees. And why are you against property rights? It’s the most American thing ever. |
Don't be silly, the Trumpers oppose the Purple Line. And they also oppose federal funding of transit. The Libertarians also aren't fans. |
Here it is folks, your local YIMBY checking in. Residents have too much say in what happens in the county. Well, unless you agree with them, then the residents are just “activists.” |
