Walz was a genius for coming up with this language. It’s clear and resonates widely. As has been pointed out, the “threat to democracy” and “soul of the nation” language was too abstract for many Americans. But it’s indisputable that these two guys are weird and have lots of weird ideas. And who wants to vote for weirdos?

Wow. I’ve never heard Governor Walz speak before. In this video at least, he looks and sounds and dresses like the type of voter that the GOP is courting—a working or middle class regular white guy. I say this without knowing anything about his background, but I intend to read up on him since I read somewhere that he is on Harris’s shortlist.

You should. He seems like a really good egg. Public school educated the entire way, including through university. Decades in the army national guard, including service in Afghanistan. A social studies teacher who eventually became a principal, and then retired to serve in the US House.

One thing that I think makes him more relatable is that he didn't go immediately to university, and when he did it was to a small state school. His dad died when he was a high schooler, and it took him a minute to figure out what he wanted to do next. I think the fact that he has worked genuinely blue collar jobs, and grew up in a genuinely rural area, makes it easier for him to talk to regular folks even if he has become successful as a politician.

Yes, they are weird. We've normalized Trump's behavior as well as that of his cronies for far too long. It's really, really weird. I'm glad the Democrats are finally calling it out and not just "We go high when they go low." It'll never work with the MAGA cultists but then, that's not the target audience. But if you’re entire defense of the compete human being you dated and married before you had kids is “a good mom”? I have two kids. By far my biggest and best accomplishment was raising them. But, wow would I be pissed if people attacked me and my husband said “good mom,” instead of “amazing, interesting, accomplished person who has also been a great parent to our kids”.
