MCPS is no longer a desirable school district

Who want to explain the math behind that?
More kids in your students class but no teachers cuts. What.

I just skimmed it. Makes you want to put your kid in a title 1 or focus school. I feel for the teachers with 25 kindergarteners. I know some people will think, it’s just one more, but it’s not, it will feel like 10 more.

I'm guessing they will lose teachers naturally thought retirement and other voluntary moves that aren't considered cuts. That solves their HR problem. But the student to teacher ratio will still go up because they won't hire as many new teachers. So the student experience will be worse. And it'll be harder on teachers as well because of the increase in class size.

Trust me, things could be worse.

We have kids going to great schools and doing fine in college.

Stop slamming MCPS.

It’s fair to say that despite its decline that MCPS remains an above average school district. It’s fair to say people shouldn’t say MCPS is no longer “great” since that is a subjective definition and definitely relative to MCPS’s previous track record.

Why are you hell bent on defending MCPS’s decline?

A lot of this will depend on how the principals at individual schools make their decisions on how to use their allocations. There is no one size fits all answer.

+1 and I say this as a parent who’s kids attended a Title 1 ES and high FARMS/ELL MS.

+1. DCUM is a bubble that doesn’t have a clue how bad it could be.

Why are you hell bent on making MCPS seem like a bottom of the barrel school district???

If a student goes from a 98 to a 90 that’s a decline but it’s doesn’t mean they are a terrible student.

So you're totally fine if that's your kid?? If so, have fun watching your kids become downwardly mobile.

We already had 26 kindergarteners per class this past year in our MCPS (in Bethesda).

Sure. But the decline in MCPS is more accurately described as a student going from a 90 to a 75. Still technically above average but no longer good or great.

Retirements and other attrition.

Exactly. 98 to 90 is where we were 10 years ago.

You should come over to Silver Spring. We've never had a class over 20. Our first grade was 14 kids. It's great.

Our Bethesda kindergarten class this year was 18. Also under 20 for my older kids.

Outside of Title 1/Focus schools or those with declining enrollment I know no one that had a first grade class with 14. 20+ is the norm.
