MCPS is no longer a desirable school district

Since we have had a great experience, just chiming in to say we, and many others, are happy. Individual experiences vary widely.

Their successes? Minimized or barely talked about. People in DCUM seem to have an obsession with MCPS.

Chris Cram? Lynne Harris? Whoever you are, this PR stumping sucks.

Do you see dead people too?

I see the inequities between title 1 and non title 1 schools and even between title 1 schools and wish MCPS would address this more. I feel that compared to other districts MCPS is not keeping up but it is not the worst of the bunch for such a large district with a wide range of SES. I haven't experienced MS yet so I may be changing my tune soon.

We went from a Title 1 ES to our home MS and it was terrible.

I think you very likely might change your tune depending on which MS it is. MS is a weak link in MCPS anyway an if you are at a MS with a high FARMS/ELL rate, it can be pretty bad.

Our MS was just amazing.

Which middle school? And when was is amazing?

TPMS and everything

Magnet? And when did they graduate from TPMS?

Do you read your children's papers?

Our 11 grader recently shared a couple papers with us. The quality and level of writing was significantly better than what I was doing in high school. I graduated from a public high school in a semi-rural district in VA.

I'm disgusted at how badly my daughter's education (or lack thereof) has been at MCPS. I feel sad that we didn't just move sooner.

Where is that school???

Even Catholic schools don't necessarily shove the religious stuff. Some do require mass but my friend attended a private Catholic school in another state and there were no prayers or mass. It was expensive though.

How about parents disciplining their kids at home and teaching kids to respect adults so kids behave when they get to school

As a teacher, I am scared if i discipline a kid, they will come back with a gun a shoot me.

Agree that parents need to discipline kids at home. But schools also need to have a strong, clear, enforceable disciplinary policy. Which has not been the case in MCPS for years. Admin can’t support teachers when students misbehave.

+1000

Teachers are not supported. Period!

There needs to be consequences for bad behavior.

Yes. Neutral outsiders think, "mcps is the shit."

Those of us who bought into and moved here know that statement is only true if you delete "the."

MCPS is not what it used to be but it is still great.

Trust me, things could be worse.

We have kids going to great schools and doing fine in college.

Stop slamming MCPS.

+1 and I say this as a parent who’s kids attended a Title 1 ES and high FARMS/ELL MS.

I haven't spoken with a single other parent this year who's been happy with their kids school. People are fed up.

Email just now from mcps about increasing every many clasd sixes by one student but not cutting any teachers.
Who want to explain the math behind that?
More kids in your students class but no teachers cuts. What.
