So your answer is that you, 1 person on this thread, potentially website, use lip reading to read? Seems like that makes the point of pp. This isnt a common occurrence, and you sound like an entitled twit asking someone to risk their health because you hate masks. |
so? again, who cares? |
Interesting use of words. Do you often discount other peoples disabilities if you dont agree with them? Or their reasons for masking? |
How do you talk on the phone? Is there an app that would help you communicate with a masked person IRL? |
How do you know that the person masking does not have health issues or a disability. Find a new talking point and learn empathy. |
Why do your needs trump mine? You have no idea why someone masks. If I get sick it lasts months. My last illness almost got my spouse fired. Are you going to replace that income till they can get a new job? Or help out with the cooking, cleaning and driving? So, I’ll keep masking to stay healthy. |
It’s not just Covid, but colds, flus and other viruses. People are too selfish to stay home when sick so the rare occasion I go out I have no other option. Be thankful for your health. |
I assume if they are masked and walking outside at the moment that they learned during covid that these masks help them with their seasonal hayfever. It was also useful to have masks on hand when wildfires in Canada last year sent smoke down to New York and Washington DC. |
I mask many places because I have an autoimmune disease. I can't take paxlovid because of my prescriptions. I wear a mask when I see my doctors because they are seeing people all day who are sick. I wear a mask on planes because I always used to arrive at destinations sick before covid and prefer to be well. |
Cool it. I'm another person who relies on lip reading as I have terrible hearing. When masking was at its peak, it was definitely a challenge. I put up with it. But now it's rarely a problem because so few people mask, and the few times someone in a mask starts talking to me, I just smile politely and shake my head and otherwise ignore them. No one masks in my office and haven't masked in my office for about a year and a half. Major F500 firm. I have noticed outside a few specific types of environments, very, very few people are still masking. You see people with masks on subways and trains but they typically take it off as soon as they leave the carriages. The one place I do see masking are progressive left wing protests and sit-ins. Not sure why they have strongly embraced masking as part of their identity. But it does make me wonder about the mentality that attracts people to still masking. All the health reasons people give on this forum existed before COVID in a world that was just as dangerous to the very sick, but no one masked back then. And I won't forget how we all wore pointless cloth masks for a year and it turned out they were useless. |
Some people are not very bright. Including quite a few low level Federal bureaucrats. It's not more complicated than that. |
I have masked at work in the past year for the following reasons:
- I felt sick - someone in my house had COVID (once) - I had a planned upcoming visit to see my friend with Stage IV cancer - I had an upcoming trip to see my parents and didn't want to miss it and lots of people around me were sick (I'm a college professor) - I had an upcoming work trip to present at a conference and didn't want to miss it AND missing it would threaten my ability to achieve tenure I do not wear gloves. I tell people why I am masking. I probably mask 1/5 of the time, more in the colder months and around holidays. It definitely makes some people uneasy but 99% are like "Oh I get it" when I tell them proactively, and some of those realize they can do the same, and do. |
Actually people did, you probably just still spat on them ![]() |
Why are you accusing me of spitting on people? |
Says who? Who died and appointed you the judge? I'm going to the doctor's for my check-up tomorrow and I'm going to double-mask in that waiting room because I don't want to contract anything from anybody there, be it Covid or the flu or laryngitis. And I don't care what you 'well-adjusted' idiots think. |
