Anyone else disappointed about graduation?

LOL, like I said, acceptance rate is 40%. We turn away 60% of applicants, so no, there is no need for us to try to recruit. There is virtually no attrition either, so no, not losing students to MCPS lol. The school typically has kids matriculate from area private schools and a sprinkling of strong academic students from MCPS and FCPS.

It's so generous of you to share your experiences here on the MCPS forum. Thank you for your service!

Not us. My son's private school HS graduation was lovely. In a beautiful church chuck full of old traditions and wonderful opportunities to highlight students. As I read this thread, I am sad for MCPS seniors.

Same. My DS graduated at the Cathedral in Baltimore (twice) and it was lovely.

In Baltimore yet hanging out on the MoCo schools forum again? Your private couldn't afford the Cathedral in DC? Feel sorry for your son and that graduating class.

This thread trending in the recent topics section and the title was intriguing. I am the initial one who made a comment about my son's private school graduation. I honestly didn't realize how cold and impersonal the public school graduations were. And you are the ones whining and complaining...I am just confirming that you SHOULD be upset about the way it is handled! I graduated from a public school with 700 graduating seniors, and we had a very nice ceremony outdoors in the stadium.

And if it rained or was 90+ degrees in the middle of cicada season would it still have been perfectly lovely?

I am ok with it being at UMBC. Now schools can accommodate more family and friends attending. The graduation I attended last year was very lovely. I don't get why everyone thinks it's impersonal. You get the usual speeches, and kids getting their diplomas. I get it its far for some people, but trust me, it was an easy job and no hassle parking. So much easier then going into DC. We went to Annapolis for a nice lunch afterwards.

But a cute little chapel is so lovely! Can't we get 500 students and 5000 family in there?

Who cares what YOUR school did. Stick to your Baltimore private groups.

The school is not in Baltimore...it is in DC and many Montgomery County residents attend this school FWIW. You sound bitter.

This is posted on Montgomery County Public School forum, why are you here? Can't answer that question, still!? Feeling bitter for having to pay $ for private school? Just to hold a ceremony at the cathedral in Baltimore when your school is in DC? Scoff.

Nope. The school is in DC and the graduation was held in the church on campus. It is a beautiful church. Did you see the photo I posted? I think you are confusing me with the Baltimore school. But like I said, a good portion of the students are from Montgomery County.

Oh and the money isn't an issue for us at all, but thanks for your concern.

Eww a church?! No thanks.

MCPS (that means public school) class of 2024, congratulations!

It's a longer drive than most wanted. We all will be fine. You will be happy you went after it is done. Some schools are arranging transportation. Make the most of the big day with your Senior!

Friends missed their terminal degree commencements in '20. You know like that last time you plan to walk across the stage. This is a HS graduation, which is special but majority of you will have another ceremony to attend in your kid's lifetime.

I would rather limit the number of people at graduation and have it at the school or nearby, than have I at a random place an hour away.

Even at UMBC the limit is 7. So would you be OK graduating on the HS football field if the ticket limit is 1 or 2 per graduate? Get over it, it's a one hour drive one day in your life.

DP. In 2021, my older kid had graduation outdoors in the stadium on a hot day during cicada season, and yes, it was perfectly lovely. My younger kid is graduating at UMBC, and while I preferred the stadium for family reasons, I expect the UMBC graduation to be perfectly lovely too.
