Anyone else disappointed about graduation?

I could bet you if that was DAR, those 30 minutes would just be on finding a parking spot.

People work from home more freeing up a few parking spaces near DAR, but you still need more than 30min on a weekday and tourist season to find parking and to drive in-out of DC during commute times. If Metro, walk 10+ min after you get off the metro.
UmBC doesn't make sense because it is far for most in MoCo. It only makes sense for families who plan to have their extended family members attend the graduation ceremony.
Best would have been on the HS field with indoor seating for those needing. Bring your hat and sunblock, most of us would have been ok outside. A rain date could be scheduled. Done. Expensive but so is all those cars driving up to Catonsville.

I don't see anywhere in MoCo that's that far from UMBC.

Have you ever driven to/from UMBC during rush hours? Yea, didn't think so.

I would rather limit the number of people at graduation and have it at the school or nearby, than have I at a random place an hour away.

Even at UMBC the limit is 7. So would you be OK graduating on the HS football field if the ticket limit is 1 or 2 per graduate? Get over it, it's a one hour drive one day in your life.

Yes. Fine on a HS field. They livestream the ceremony. Extended family can view from comfort of your/their couch, their hotel room, or from the city/state/country where they reside.

Driving to UMBC during rush hour is far better than driving to DAR.

You get to want what you want. However, people who are not you also get to want what they want, which might be different from what you want. Also, school administrators (a subcategory of people who are not you) get to make the decisions, based on their judgment about what works best for the most people given the constraints of the situation.

Not close enough for a lot of parents and grandparents.

Have you heard of taxi? or Uber, Lyft? Circulator bus at the metro stations? All which can be taken after metro if they can't walk.

No option is perfect for everyone. If you're going to DAR, and Metro doesn't work for you, then consider driving and parking as an alternative option.

Looks like you have either. Rush hour is in the opposite direction. I suggest checking Waze in the morning to find out exactly how long the commute is. For me, it is 39 minutes leaving Olney at 8am. Use the ICC to avoid the beltway.

In the DC metro, miles don't matter, the traffic matters. It sometimes takes me 30 minutes to go 5 miles.

Just limit attendance at the graduations already and have them closer to the schools.

DP but that's 100% true.
Used to do Uber sometimes, you could not pay me to drive to DAR/DC during rush hour. But I would do BWI in a heartbeat during rush hour.

People are willing to travel just as far via car, metro, bus or walk to get to DAR than to drive to UMBC. For some, DC is closer, others Catonsville. HS field is closest.

HS field > DAR > UMBC Catonsville 15 min from BWI airport
