Most people in the DMV have no idea where Cheverly is so saying it is a small town outside of the City makes a lot of sense.
I live in Cheverly and when I talk to people from this area I often say "I'm from Cheverly, it's a small town just outside of DC". When I talk to someone from outside the area I say "I live just outside of DC in in a small town in Maryland." The cult of Cheverly is strong! Lots of reasons to love living here. |
That's what is strange to me - it's a small town but the main social activity in the town seems to be dominated by residents of Capitol Hill. |
That is a super touchy observation. There are plenty of people in town who lobby to kick all the DC people out of the Cheverly pool. I guess they don't understand how a private swim club works ![]() I wouldn't say that 1) the main social activity in town is the pool....there are lots of other things going on in town or 2) the pool is dominated by DC folks. Most of the Board of the pool are Cheverly residents and slightly more than half of the members are. |
Only those that incorporated as township, like Falls Church or Vienna. |
Edmonston |
Cheverly, Bladensburg, Edmonston, Riverdale |
Middleburg was the first to come to my mind. |
Herndon, Vienna |
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone from the city of falls church said this.. |
New York City |
I've heard someone say this to describe being from Great Falls. I laughed. To be fair, if you live right outside DC you do not live in a small town in the way anyone in most of the country would view a small town... even those that technically live in the close in towns. They are not towns in the sense anyone from Southern VA or the NE would refer to. |
