Why do you want to be flying through the sky and you can't even see out the window? |
Glare. |
I get extremely agitated and antsy when the windows are all closed. |
At altitude there is more exposure to radiation when the window is open than when it is closed. |
To get somewhere. |
Wow that is interesting. I fly a lot and it was my impression that it is rude to have it open the the whole flight. |
Exactly!! |
I prefer the shade up if I have the window seat because I like to look out. I prefer it down when I do have the window seat because there is usually glare and I can’t see out anyway. But I adhere to the widely held view that the window seat gets to choose up or down. Just like the middle seat gets both arm rests and no one should recline their seat. |
And what do you do if one wants it open and the other wants it closed? |
+1 I always book window seats for primarily for this reason and will always keep the shade closed. Also because I very rarely have to get up mid flight to use the bathroom, stretch legs, etc and don’t want to be bothered by those needing more frequent breaks. It’s weird to me that you would assume the view factors into most people’s calculus in seat selection. |
+1 I don’t book window seats for the view. I book them because they are the most comfortable and I am less bothered by other people in them. I like keeping it dark so I can sleep and lean against the window and I don’t get disturbed by other people getting up. |
Point A to point B |
Last couple of times I flew during the day from Europe to US and WAS to West Coast, all shades were down and lights off during the whole flight.
I actually surmised there may be a study to cut down on possible disturbances by inducing sleepiness - and asked the flight attendant. She said there’s no directive, it’s what people do or don’t. That was Lufthansa. She suggested to ask the United flight attendants. I hate it because I’m totally tired when I arrive after spending hours in the dark during the day and arriving during daytime. |
Me too and am dead tired when I arrive |
Q: Why do people think it's ok to put your window shade down on the plane?
A: Because it is ok to put your window shade down on the plane. |
