Why do people think it's ok to put your window shade down on the plane?

So much this! We’re not toddlers, we don’t need to nap during the day. If it’s daytime, I want natural light.

I think it’s up to the person in that seat (although it can be a bummer!). You can turn on your overhead light

Yep. I like the shade up during the day as well, but I value easy access to the bathroom more, so I book the aisle and deal with the fact that the window seat passenger determines the status of the shade. And of course, the hapless middle seat passenger gets both armrests.

Every flight I have taken requires window shades down at altitude in fact one flight on qatar has the window shades built into the window and you couldn't adjust them up or down

I agree with OP. I don't think they should allow people to pull down the window shades on planes. It just makes the experience for those of us in the Aisles awful. I have complained to the airline about this on several occasions.

So then book the window seat for yourself. Stop choosing aisle. Problem solved.
