I'm surprised by the number of Hamas supporters in this thread. Who knew Hitler would have so much support here in MoCo. |
I don’t think they support hamas per se. Rather: They don’t like Israel because of the bombing and the historic oppression. For whatever reason, they can’t connect the dots to hamas—the terrorist group that’s led Gaza for years, attacked Israeli civilians, and is using innocent Palestinians as human shields. (Did everyone see the news yesterday about how Hamas is strategically keeping the youngest hostage—a 10 month old baby? They actually gave him to another terrorist group in Gaza, announcing it in an effort to make clear they have a baby hostage as a human shield.) Can we at least blame mcps for the lack of critical thinking skills? |
I’m surprised so many idiots keep coming back to equate support for innocent Palestinian civilians as support for Hamas. DO BETTER!!!! |
Generally speaking, this pope isn’t a fan of any war or human suffering. He’s big on peace. |
So was his boss, who in fact is often referred to as the "Prince of Peace". (I am not, nor have I ever been, a Christian.) |
MCPS exchanged critical thinking for critical theory years ago. Everything they teach is about oppression and "remedies" for that oppression which, of course, are almost always leftist. Look at the books your kids are reading in school. The classics have been replaced by books written in the past decade, all with an identity-based oppressor/oppression theme. This is not an accident. |
There's no such thing as a Palestinian citizen. DO BETTER!!!! |
Maybe learn how to read? I said Palestinian civilians which is very much true no matter how much you want to exterminate them. |
Since Hamas is part of the Palestinian government, many people see it as support of Hamas. I wish the support Palestine protesters would also denounce Hamas. That would go a long way. |
100% this. They have gone off the deep end. And I say this as a lefty progressive Asian. I make our kids read all sort of classics since they don't get it at school. Despite being written by mainly white men they don't feel subjugated, lol. |
Future generations will ask why we didn’t care and how we supported our government’s assistance in this horror. |
I asked my actual high schooler and they reminded me that Gaza has not held elections since 2006, and that more than half of the population of Gaza is under 18 and therefore could not have voted in that election. Most of the population of Gaza wasn't even born yet. If we look at why the Palestinian cause is sympathetic to young people, we should consider that they actually understand these facts and that their solidarity is in part based on how young the Gazan population is. Also, as was said above, American young people, including Jewish young people, have never known a peace-seeking Israel. Their entire lives has been a post-Rabin, expansionist, belligerent Israel led by folks with openly genocidal impulses. Add the US taxpayer support to Israel and you have a situation where "critical thinking" leads you to sympathy with Palestine, particularly if you are too young to remember an Israeli government that genuinely sought peace. |
There's no such thing as Palestine. |
I'm always confused when people post stuff like this because it doesn't actually reflect my own child's current experience in MCPS. This year, they've read the Crucible, the Great Gatsby, Into the Wild, and a few more books by dead white guys (some more recently dead than others). I think they've read one "identity-based" book to date, compared to two "classics" and one non-classic with a white male protagonist. |
And there's the problem right there. Asking for a cease fire is considered antisemitic now. Asking for that while wearing your own ethnic garb and carrying a flag is considered "dangerous". I am actually of the opinion that there shouldn't be school protests at all, for anything, but you can't constantly assume every Palestinian is a war mongering backwards anti semitic terrorist. I know my kids' friends have had family members dead/injured from the IDF (long before Oct 7). They are terrified, their families in Gaza (*and* West Bank) are terrified. |
