Celebrities who take themselves way too seriously

Celebrities can do nothing right in some people's eyes. If they're too serious or intellectual, they're mocked for it. If they're too frivolous, they're criticized.

They can't win. So they'd better do whatever they heck they want!!!

Also, shame on you. I'd like to see you handle intense scrutiny and dissection of your every move and social media post, OP. See whether you think that's fair.

Bono , I think, takes his humanitarian work seriously, but I don't think he takes himself too seriously.

He doesn't hesitate to poke fun at his own self, and he's been married for over 40 years to his high school sweetheart. He seems like a good dude.

I know a LOT of teens who currently identify as trans.

My feeling is that it has become more acceptable to "try it out" these days during those difficult years when you are figuring yourself out.

I don't know if it is Hollywood, really. I think teens today are just feeling more free to experiment with these things.

I think it’s mostly a trend and less about feeling free to experiment. I am a heterosexual, feminine, type adult woman, who was a doll playing, dress wearing girly girl, but I could totally see the young teen me thinking I might be transgender. I remember not feeling womanly or sexual and not wanting my body to change and not wanting to wear make up or bras and wishing I were a boy so I wouldn’t bleed. Luckily for me, in my day, bulimia and anorexia were the ways that neurotic girls dealt with their bodily insecurities and neither one of those was remotely appealing to me. I could easily see the teen me thinking, “that’s it! I’m a boy!” I don’t think I liked my body until I was around 20 (and I have an objectively nice figure).

Am I really alone in this memory of puberty? Don’t any of you remember hating your body?

And there it is...here on DCUM transgender people have become their own version of Godwin's Law. No matter the topic, someone can't resist a chance to spew hateful words.

But so many of them have transgendered children. It’s statistically impossible. I’m thinking more narcissistic attention seeking abusive parents rather than genuinely gender confused kiddos.

How many is too many? And what do you mean by statistically impossible? There are thousands of celebrities and they are in the public eye. How about you people not pollute every.single.thread with anti-trans stuff? So tiresome.

I have never once discussed anything about transgendered people on DCUM until the one comment above. In my real life, I don’t know any children who are (but then again, I don’t know many tweens).

Out of sheer curiosity, I just now looked up the Williams Institutes (UCLA ) figures on how many children between the ages of 13 and 17 identify as transgendered. (As an fyi, that’s the age group that most identifies as transgender.) It’s estimated to be 300,000 (1.4% of the total population of 13-17 year olds). The rate in California is much higher, (49,000 kids), almost up to 1.93%, but that’s still a very small percentage of the population.

But off the top of my head, I can think of the following celebrities who “support” their transgendered children:
1) Megan Fox, 2) Charlize Theron, 3) J-Lo, 4) Cynthia Nixon, 5) Jamie Lee Curtis,
6) Busy Phillips, 7) Annette Bening,
8) Sigouney Weaver, let’s not forget Cher (albeit her kid is hardly a child). And that’s just from the top of my head. I’m sure there are lots more I haven’t noticed or heard about.

Transgender people make up a teeny, tiny percentage of the population. And celebrities make up an even smaller percentage of the population; yet, a ton of celebrities have transgendered children! You think it’s a coincidence, but I do not.

Since it's such a teeny, tiny percentage, why do you care?

What a stupid comment. Don't you have anything more worthwhile to say?

I don’t. I’m just observing that a group of people who by definition are very attention seeking (hello, there Busy Phillips), have an unusually high number of children who are transgender. It tells me more about the parents than it does about the kids. Is there a single social cause that Cynthia Nixon hasn’t loudly attached herself to?

This thread is about annoying celebrities and I think it’s annoying when celebrities use their innocent private children to put a spotlight on themselves.

But do I really, really care?
Nope.

You’re not alone. It’s just that often these thoughts get stifled and criticized.

Like you, I hated girly stuff as a young girl. I could’ve easily been caught up in the trends of today.

You and I know what’s going on here, but not much can be done.

Busy's kid is just gay, she's not trans. Just gay.
