And my DD who attends a Catholic high school has been assigned books from the ALA banned book list in English class. She also belongs to a social justice club. None of this stops my FIL from assuming she is learning about creationism and is being trained to follow Trump, neither of which are remotely true. He’s rather ignorant about Catholicism, though, and assumes the worst. I tried to point out his misconceptions, but he seems rather happy to keep them. FWIW, one of her best friends is LGBTQ+ and seems quite open and comfortable at the school. |
| Pick an Episcopal school. You’ll get all of the benefits of being at a school that has great religious education but in an intellectual and ethical way (and *none* if the transphobia). |
What do you know about Catholic schools? What is anti-intellectual and unethical about them? How have the schools exhibited transphobia? Very curious here. I have my kids in two different Catholic schools and I teach in a 3rd. I’m not seeing anything you claim. And I’m not Catholic. |
Anything that promotes sin is sinful. Since there is no possibility of non sinful homosexual sex within Catholicism, anything promoting that, like dating same sex partners, is promoting sin. |
Yes it is, within the Catholic church. We are only talking about Catholic doctrine here. Obviously in the secular world, none of this matters. Adultery is not illegal and neither is gay marriage. |
If you view taking someone to prom as promoting sex with them then I would think you would be anti prom, because the straight couples are husband and wife. |
Nice dodge. |

Why would a gay person or child want to go to a catholic school or church? Pretty sure most Catholic Churches are not gay affirming.
I feel like many families leave the Catholic Church over this issue. |
You don’t see the irony in your last statement? Catholics try to interject themselves in everyone’s life everyday. And for decades the Catholic Church has tried to take over public schools via public school board elections. Yet you want people to stay in their lane and not impede on your beliefs? Why not just let people not be Catholic in peace without judgement? |
Can you point to any proof of these statements? Where has the Catholic Church tried to take over school boards, and for what purpose? There are plenty of Catholic schools, so I don’t really see the point. Is it possible you are inserting “Catholic” when you simply mean “Christian”? I feel the Catholic Church takes a lot of heat that really should be pointed at other denominations. |
Even if true, school boards are public spaces and we have a democratic system so of course everyone should vote and try to get their voices heard. The Catholic Church is not a democracy. You can try all you want to change it but just don't get frustrated when it doesn't happen. |
What husband and wife are going to prom? Encouraging dating is about encouraging relationships that ultimately lead to marriage, not premarital sex. The fact that the church does not recognize homosexual marriages is why encouraging homosexuals to date is wrong. |
So is dating opposite sex people since premarital sex is a sin. Prom is "lose your virginity night" so Prom in and of itself is sinful. |
Maybe 1% of people going to prom are going to get married to each other but they are going to bang that night or that summer. You are a wack job and you don't speak for all Catholics or even the Catholic church. |
Same reason divorced families got to Catholic school/church. |
