Also Allentown

Such a good song. I hadn't listened to it in years.

My favorite is New York State of Mind- That fact that he can make one homesick, and I'm not even from NY, speaks to the power of Billy Joel.

I recently started listening to my old Billy Joel albums again. I'd forgotten how much I used to love his music.
Speaking of Billy Joel and beautiful songs, Piano Man.

I recently rewatched 13 Going On 30 and sobbed when Vienna Waits for You plays while she's crying in the closet!

Ah, my peoples. A PP mentioned Dreams by The Cranberries. That song can instantly transport me back to 1993.

+1 LOVE the Cranberries.

+2 - listening to the CD a hundred times over in my dorm room. My poor roommate. (Not just for that, but that's another thread!)

They wrote the fart song, right?

So many Paul Simon songs. I'll limit myself to a few:

Such a beautiful song. Sad, hopeful, human...

Any political/protest song but this is the one that hits me the hardest.

Black boys on Mopeds

Sinead O'Connor

And the Paul Simon mention above reminded me about One Man's Ceiling is Another Man's Floor.

Let The Mystery Be - it was the theme song to The Leftovers, so I guess it does have some heartbreak in it, but it's not heartbreak over romantic love. It's heartbreak over the fact of mortality. And it's a GORGEOUS song.

Best line:
I believe in love and I live my life accordingly, but I choose to let the mystery be.

Natalie Merchant and David Byrne do a great cover.

The Handsome Family (and a great cover by Andrew Bird)

Wow, Blue Rodeo! I had a friend in college 30 years ago who introduced me to them - and I've never heard them mentioned by anyone else. Are you Canadian?

I am! I've seen them in concert a few times. "Try" is perhaps their best-known song and it's wonderful, but definitely about love.
And "We are lost together" is another beautiful one.

It's nice to see several Canadian artists' songs listed here. I don't think anyone has mentioned any by Neil Young but there are certainly some that fit into this category.
