Petition to change the name of Dulles Airport

Anonymous
there is zero evidence he is a racist

Who gives a crap what the name is. Dulles is an internationally known airport. Let it go..go do something worthwhile rather than complain about a name

I still have no idea who O'Hare is? Anyone?

I vote for "People Mover International Airport (PMIA)".

It's important that potential arriving travelers are forewarned about those horrible things.

Why do we keep on doing this. Are we going to change the name of Fairfax County because it is named after a guy that owned slaves 400 years ago? What about Washington DC because it is named after George Washington (also owned slaves)? Should we rename the Ronald Reagan Airport because his campaign produced a somewhat racist ad about welfare recipients while running for reelection. I don't see where this will stop and it seems like a distraction from things that can have a meaningful impact on society.

[quote=Anonymous]John Foster Dulles isn't my cup of tea, nor is his brother, but what do you expect when we went ahead and renamed National "Reagan National"?

If I had to pick a bone, I'd go after DCA's "proper" name first.

At least Dulles's work was largely in the context of Eisenhower, who actually warned us about the military-industrial complex. Not that he should get credit for that or it should have anything to do with airport names.

I'd love to keep it to local geographical names (which, of course, include references to people in history but are more broadly accepted for practical reasons), and maybe diminutive local honorifics that could more easily change.

You do realize that Dulles Airport was named that long before National was named for Reagan, right?

And who was Father Hurley (Blvd)?

And while they're at it, the District of Columbia could remove the name of that scoundrel, crook and racist Marion Barry from at least two municipal buildings, not to mention the statue they installed outside the District Building. Barry said some rather vile, racist things, particularly about Asians.

The US should overthrow the Iranian government again.

It takes a LOT of taxpayer money to rename places and the money could be better spent on upgrading the place.

Just rename it after his bother. No need to change any signage.

He was the Navy's first fighter ace of WW2 and a Medal of Honor recipient: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_O%27Hare

Kinda shameful that I've flown through there dozens of times over the past three decades and only just found that out.

Soo... LaGuardia, JFK, O'Hare, Logan, McCarran (LV), Ted Stevens (Anchorage), Norman Y. Mineta (San Jose), Bradley (Conn.), Eppley (Omaha), Hopkins (Cleveland), Gen. Mitchell (Milwaukee), etc. So "southern"!

I just heard today that Congress is considering naming it Trump airport. Because, of course Congress has nothing better to do than pander to the most noxious pimple on the butt of humanity.
