I think hitting/spanking your kids is just lazy parenting.
Do better as a parent and actually take charge in being the grownup in the situation. Say "no," take stuff away, ground them, hell... even shame them. Shaming is so much more productive than hitting, imho. |
spanking is clearly on the decline.
'why has it been decreasing for the past decades? There's no clear answer regarding this dramatic drop. Some experts believe it's a generational change, as humans increasingly reject any form of domestic violence, according to CNN. Others point to the influence of popular culture, with television stars such as "Supernanny" emphatically saying spanking does not help and should never be used. There has also been a constant trickle of studies showing the dangers of spanking, which can result in kids with increased aggression, depression, suicidal behavior, substance abuse and even changes in the brain.' https://health.howstuffworks.com/pregnancy-and-parenting/spanking-decline.htm |
Trashy and shitty are not synonymous with poor. |
I totally disagree with you, from my own perspective on experiencing both shame and spanking. |
+1 Rosebud.... |
no one said it was. I'm UMC and i have never met a single parent who thinks it's ok to spank their kid. It is absolutely correlated in my mind and i think in most people I know's minds with being ill educated, desperate and having poor emotional self regulation or untreated mental health issues. |
I think it will continue to decline with millennial and gen z parents. Most of the parents on here pro spanking are almost certainly boomers, old gen x, lower income or rural/ religious. I'd be shocked to hear from a millennial/ college ed gen z parent that they spank. |
The PP said it was. |
94 percent.
“ Even as several western European countries have outlawed spanking, surveys suggest 94 percent of American parents spank their children by the time they are three or four years old, although that number hides great variability in the regularity and severity of the punishment, as well as the context in which the punishment is delivered.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/2002/06/26/study-harm-outweighs-benefits-of-spanking/0f72fe3e-d49e-4a04-993c-d0934a1df286/ |
Absolute +1 |
This article is from 2002, are you an idiot? |
Yes, you can hit your dog. You can actually put a shock collar or training collar on your dog. Have you ever trained a big dog such as a Rotweiller, Cane Corso, etc. And, WTF are you talking about and comparing a child to a dog. Weirdo |
No. Millennials have actually shown higher approval rates for spanking than the older generations did. —Millennial parent who has spanked https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/03/05/millennials-like-to-spank-their-kids-just-as-much-as-their-parents-did/ |
This article is over 20 years old. It has no relevance to young children today, or to your children’s peers…if you are UMC and spank your children, you are an absolute outlier |
And totally coincidentally, behavior in children and teens is worse. As are anxiety, depression, suicide. Parents are patting themselves on the back for not spanking. And the result is ... not good. |
