| OP here - thanks again for the tips. Did not intend to once again debate the merits of Catholicism but it does always descend into that. My local public has a dress code so I am not worried about the adjustment to uniforms - i am looking forward to it. I look forward to discipline in the classroom (my kid’s current public school classrooms have kids flipping desks and throwing staplers at the teacher - with little to no recourse. I do think i am making the right choice and appreciate the tips. |
I would much prefer my kid not be allowed to wear pants to risking her being raped in the bathroom in a public school...this is happening. |
What does that have to do with cost per student? The truth of the matter is that public schools are overly wasteful with money, using it for nonsense. Catholic schools focus on the fundamentals that matter most: math, reading, science. Public schools are using money for ridiculous anti-racist audits and other things that have no impact on learning. |
I will add that my daughter is special needs and was educated in a Catholic school. Public schools are given money to deal with these issues, but they do so very ineffectively. |
In many places, things have changed from this time. thank fully... |
Thats such a weird thing to say. They teach this at Catholic school? What schools are you referring to and what did they avoid??? |
|
No they don’t, unfortunately. |
This is simply not true across the board. Many schools have alumni come back to teach because they WANT to. Even if the pay may be slightly less ( not always) and the health care may be "terrible" ( again not always!). Also forbidden from being gay is not true. What schools are you talking about? |
BUt I attended one and we DID. So what school are you talking about? We learned sex education, anatomy and all the things. And this was in the 80s-90s. Both in my local catholic middle school and high school. |
Name the specific school that doesn't. Because many do. |
Catholic schools do not take large numbers of students with material special needs. |
You might not be but are your kids? They are the one's that have to deal with it so it's their opinion that matters. |
My son is attending an Arlington diocese school and has had a horrible experience this past year. 1. My elementary-aged son recently informed me that "gay people are sinners" and he learned that at school this year. When I recently volunteered at the school, I overheard several boys mocking as in "last person(run) to the fence is gay"! My son confirmed this type of chatter and I've had to begin serious re-programming. 2. I am a single parent (knocked up, dad not in the picture)! Several classmates mock my son for not having a dad. Son's current, very conservative teacher has made snide comments about the lack of parenting in the home. That said, the community is very nice and other teachers friendly and not judgey! I will write more later (after work when I have time to read this whole thread) but I felt compelled to respond to this NOW! |
Pp can’t name a school because it’s a lie. |
